Well… yesterday there were no cakes, no sugar flowers and no deliveries! 😂🥂🐎

Sometimes it’s good to step away, even when you’re ridiculously busy.

My to-do list has been planned with military precision this week because I knew I wanted to take yesterday off and spend the day at Beverley Races with these lovely ladies.

Everything that could be prepped in advance was done, admin shuffled around and the baking planned accordingly.

One thing we never compromise on at EMHQ is freshness. Every single one of our cakes is baked fresh here in our kitchen, so even with weddings on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, taking a day out yesterday doesn’t change that. The ovens are going to be VERY busy over the next few days! 😬😂

But yesterday was sunshine, fizz, horses, lots of laughs and, unbelievably, a rather lucky day on the betting too… I won on every race bar one!! 😂🐎💷

I’ll not be giving up the day job just yet though! 🤣

Sometimes I think you just need a day like that don’t you?

Anyway… back to reality today. Whites on, ovens on and let’s get these cakes made! 🎂💜🌈

Almost exactly a year ago we travelled to Hazlewood Castle with Adele & Gill’s wedding cake.. remember the cake with a handmade Margaret Merril rose in memory of Adele’s mum? 🥹

Fast forward a year and this weekend we had the absolute pleasure of creating another wedding cake for the same family, this time for Gill’s daughter Lauren and her new husband Joe at Oaklands

And what a cake!

Dusty blues, masses of gypsophila and an illuminated acrylic tier filled with fresh gyps running through the centre.

Because gypsophila is toxic and can’t be placed directly onto a cake, all of the gyps on the outside had to be handmade from wafer paper.

250 individual stems, each with four tiny petals… that’s 1,000 individually cut petals! 😱😳

We added handmade dusty blue flowers to finish the design and I even got to work alongside the lovely vanessajayne_floraldesigns again, who created the gorgeous fresh floral arrangements for both weddings.

Then this gorgeous message arrived from Lauren…

“Thank you so much for making our wedding cake! It was absolutely gorgeous! We have had so many compliments on how amazing it tasted. It really brought our vision together.”

From Adele & Gill last August to Lauren & Joe this August. What an absolute privilege to be trusted with another special day for the same family. 🥹💜

Well… it’s going to be a busy couple of weeks at EMHQ! 😳🎂

We have seven wedding cakes going out over seven days starting from the weekend, alongside all our other orders, so today has been very much about getting organised!

Stocking up on ingredients, checking lists (and checking them again! 😂), starting on sugar flowers and decorations and generally getting everything ready for the slightly organised chaos that is about to begin.

But I couldn’t let today go by without sharing this gorgeous chap who left EMHQ at the weekend 🐘🥰

Ian got in touch about a cake for Sue’s 60th birthday and pretty much gave me free rein with the design. He knew he wanted an elephant theme and left the rest to me… my favourite kind of brief! 💜

So we created this two-tier safari inspired cake, complete with a 3D elephant coming out of the cake, hand painted sunset, a handmade tree and even edible foliage for the leaves (microwave cake is the future 😉) 🌳🐘

I absolutely loved making this one and seeing him all come together.

Some wedding cakes don’t need lots of colour or intricate detailing to make an impact.

Sometimes simplicity says it all.

For Ellis & Tom’s wedding at Hackness Grange, we created this elegant three-tier design, finished with delicate handmade sugar flowers and a subtle touch of burgundy to tie in with their wedding colours.

It’s one of those cakes that proves less really can be more.

The best part though?

Receiving messages like this afterwards…

“Thank you for making our beautiful cake! We have received so many compliments on your behalf.” 💕

There really isn’t a better feeling than knowing a cake has not only looked the part but has become part of people’s memories of such a special day.

Congratulations again, Ellis & Tom, and thank you for trusting us to create your wedding cake. It was an absolute pleasure. 💜

Monday mornings are often my main admin day.

It’s the day I get to work on the business as well as in it. Looking after enquiries, preparing quotes, refining designs, catching up on emails and making sure everything is in place behind the scenes.

Today is a particularly busy one after welcoming lots of lovely couples to EMHQ over the weekend for our Wedding Open Weekend.

A mug of tea.

A bit of sunshine (while it lasts! ☀️).
And two iPads because apparently one just isn’t enough these days! 😂

Now it’s time to work through all of those conversations, prepare quotes, refine designs and start turning ideas into wedding cakes.

It’s one of my favourite parts of the job.

Now… where did Ray put that left over cake to have with this cuppa 🤔 🎂😂

Our EMHQ Open Weekend starts today and we can’t wait to welcome all of the lovely couples who are joining us over the weekend.

Choosing your wedding cake should be one of the most exciting parts of planning your big day. Our appointments are relaxed, informal and all about getting to know you, your wedding and the ideas you’ve been dreaming about.

We’ll chat through designs, look at inspiration, enjoy some delicious cake samples and help you create something that’s uniquely yours.

We still have a handful of appointments available on Sunday, so if you’ve recently got engaged and haven’t yet booked your wedding cake, we’d love to welcome you to EMHQ.

One of my favourite wedding cakes of this year… 💜

When Matt and Kristy first sent me an inspiration image, they loved the overall feel but wanted something that was uniquely theirs.

So rather than recreating it, we took the elements they loved and designed a cake that reflected their style, with delicate hand-piped detailing, bas relief, elegant sugar flowers and soft pearl swags, creating a design that felt timeless and romantic.

Seeing it set up at the beautiful The Wootton Hall Estate was incredibly special, but the best part was receiving this message afterwards…

“Thank you so so very much from both me and Kristy, your cake was truly stunning and so many people commented on how beautiful it looked and tasted ❤️”

Those messages never get old.

As a lovely little coincidence, yesterday I also had the pleasure of meeting Steve, one of the owners of Wootton Hall. He recognised the cake stand from one of the slides in my presentation and came over to introduce himself. It’s always lovely when the worlds of weddings and business overlap, and it was a pleasure to finally put a face to the name.

Well apparently today is National Lemon Day… so it would be rude not to end the day by sharing these 🍋🤣

This is why I love collaborating with other suppliers. We all arrive with our own little piece of the idea and somehow it comes together to create something far bigger than any one of us could have done alone.

Our next EMHQ Open Weekend is getting very close now… 1st & 2nd August 🥰🎂

Saturday is almost fully booked with just one appointment remaining, but we still have plenty of availability on the Sunday.
