Sometimes you just know exactly where a cake belongs 💜

When I arrived at The Wootton Hall Estate to set up Josh & Emily’s wedding cake and spotted this beautiful exposed brick wall, I immediately knew it was the perfect place for the cake.

And seeing this first photograph afterwards has completely confirmed it 🥹

This design featured one of our Prop Options floating tiers, soft textured detailing, bas relief, edible gold paint and delicate handmade sugar flowers, creating a romantic, elegant look that felt perfectly at home within the venue.

It was lovely to meet Louise and the team, who had styled the room beautifully, and once everything was in place the cake looked as though it had always belonged there.

I have to admit, the stunning log stand looked incredible too… although getting a floating tier cake perfectly level on top of it was a little more challenging than the photographs might suggest 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

I forgot to take a photo today when I met with Craig from Craigs Special Occasions today at Daily Grind Hull so I asked Ai to help with a visual in the style of his logo.
It was lovely getting to know him and his business better, discussing how we can help eaxh other and work together… when I saw Ai had given him a sippy cup I decided to keep it because it fitted Craig’s character 💯 😂

Business Culture is more than just sales – it's a family of business people supporting each other, sharing opportunities, and building genuine relationships.
Today was another great example of that as I met with Ellie from Elliegantly Made. It was fantastic to get to know each other better, learn more about our businesses, and explore ways we can work together and create opportunities for one another.
Networking isn't just about what you can sell – it's about building connections, trust, and helping each other succeed.

When Emily from The Golden Thread Events Management got in touch about cupcakes for a client event, she wanted something a little bit different.

Now, anyone who knows me knows that giving me creative freedom can sometimes send me down a rabbit hole of ideas 😬😂

The client’s branding featured a beautiful wax seal logo and I couldn’t get it out of my head. Rather than simply adding a printed logo, I wanted to recreate the wax seal itself in sugar.

So began the process of sourcing equipment, creating custom elements and hand finishing every single wax seal in gold before placing them individually onto the cupcakes we produced.

Were printed toppers quicker? Absobloominlutely.

Was I ever going to choose the easy option? Probably not 🤷🏼‍♀️ but did I adore creating them, hell yeh! 😍

It’s often these little details that nobody asks for that end up becoming my favourite part of a project.

🥹 Sometimes a wedding cake becomes so much more than just a wedding cake.

When Rachel and Joshua came to EMHQ for their consultation, I asked Rachel to send me some inspiration from her florist so I could begin designing their cake.

Her reply stopped me in my tracks.

“Well… the florist got sent a picture of one of your cakes.”

Then I discovered the stylists, Megan and Lucy from BelleBijoux Events, had been sent the same cake too.

As cake designers we spend hours, days and sometimes weeks researching, designing and creating cakes, never really knowing where they’ll end up once they leave EMHQ.

To discover that a previous cake I had created had become the inspiration for an entire wedding was one of those moments I’ll truly never forget.

For Rachel & Joshua’s wedding at Dunedin House, we created this soft, romantic design featuring delicate hand-piped wildflowers in the prettiest pastel shades.

Seeing it come together on the day and then seeing these beautiful photographs from Dan at Ginger Snaps Wedding Photography was incredibly special.

It’s easy to think wedding cakes are just dessert.

But sometimes they become part of the inspiration for a couple’s entire day 💜

Sometimes a review lands in your inbox and completely makes your week…

Yesterday we received this message from one of our lovely wedding couples and honestly, I cried 🥹

One of the things Ray and I love most about our wedding consultations at EMHQ is helping couples who arrive saying, “We don’t really know where to begin!”

Wedding planning can feel overwhelming as it is which is and why we always aim to make the process relaxed, enjoyable and completely personal.

From tasting cake flavours and discussing designs to choosing stands, flowers and all those little finishing touches, we love helping bring ideas together and creating something that feels uniquely theirs.

To hear that not only did they love the finished cake, but that they felt supported throughout the whole journey, is exactly why we do what we do 💜

Last week was a bit of a whirlwind 😅

Humber Business Week landed in the middle of one of our busiest weeks of the year, with eight orders leaving EMHQ, including three wedding cakes, hundreds of cupcakes and plenty of miles on the road delivering them all.

I didn’t make it to as many events as I’d hoped, but the ones I did attend reminded me exactly why Hull and East Yorkshire has such a fantastic business community.

The week started with Ray and I enjoying the Humber Business Week lunch at Tiger Events Hull MKM Stadium before heading over to a networking event hosted by The Business Culture HEY and The One Point which also happened to fall on our wedding anniversary 💜

I spent Wednesday at HFR Solutions CIC with Sailors Childrens Society learning more about Corporate Social Responsibility, listening to Lee and some brilliant speakers and panellists sharing their experiences and insights.

Thursday saw our Hull Business Women's Breakfast Club Humber Business Week event at The Deep, enjoying a fantastic lunch prepared by the students from Ganton School’s Chop & Change programme. While I couldn’t make every event on the schedule thanks to a mountain of cake orders, Benji stepped in and flew the flag for Elliegantly Made at Bilocca later that evening.

Then on Friday, after delivering a wedding cake to Hackness Grange, I headed over to Bridlington Spa for The Business Day, taking hundreds of cupcakes with me for Sewell Group an associate sponsor of Humber Business Week who also celebrated 150th years.

It was my first Business Day and I absolutely loved it. Catching up with familiar faces, making new connections and celebrating the incredible businesses, charities and organisations we have across our region.

A huge thank you to Pat Coyle and the Humber Business Week Steering Group for organising such a fantastic week. Events like these don’t happen by accident and it’s easy to forget just how much work goes on behind the scenes.

Now… if anyone needs me, I’ll be catching up on the work that piled up while I was networking 😂🎂

We always take photos of our cakes but let’s face it I’m a cake maker not a photographer 🤷🏼‍♀️🥴😂…

Charlotte recently sent over these beautiful photos from her wedding to Dave at Oaklands and I just had to share them 🥹

This design featured one of my favourite elements, one of our Prop Options floating tiers, which always creates that little bit of magic and makes people stop for a second look.

Finished with beautiful flowers supplied by the gorgeous bride and displayed in the most perfect setting, it looked right at home amongst the decor of the room.

The picture of Charlotte & Dave cutting their cake is definitely my favourite photo of the set, the smiles on their faces says everything about their day💜

Today is a little special on our calendar, because 21 years ago today Ray and I got married 💜

Looking back at these photos one thing makes me smile more than anything else… we’ve always been a team.💜

Of course we’ve built a life together, but over the years we’ve also built Elliegantly Made together.

People often see me and the cakes, but behind the scenes Ray is the one helping load cars, carrying cake stands, setting up at wedding fayres, delivering cakes, making me cups of tea when deadlines are looming and generally keeping me fed, watered… and sane when wedding season is in full swing 😅

Running a business can be challenging at times, but having someone who believes in what you’re building and is willing to roll their sleeves up and help makes all the difference.

Today also marks the start of Humber Business Week and we’re looking forward to spending some time together at a few of the events over the coming days.

So here’s to 21 years of marriage, teamwork, friendship, support and somehow still liking each other after all this time 😂🥂💜
