To celebrate Thai New Year, we invited monks to Rosa’s Guildford for a traditional blessing - a ritual to reset, bring good energy, and start the year properly.
We also set up our own little water-blessing station, where the team had the chance to gently pour water over senior members’ hands to receive their blessings for the year ahead.
A little bit of Thailand, with a Rosa’s touch, right here 🔫 💦

Songkran Part 2 🍜

A huge part of Thai New Year is coming together with families and sharing delicious food 🥘

There’s always a LOT of food to go round, but a couple of popular foods eaten during this time is Larb G*i and noodles.

Larb means ‘luck’ in Thai, so we eat this one to bring good luck for the year ahead. We also eat a lot of noodles because we believe long noodles = a long life.

Don’t forget to try our Songkran Special dishes, available exclusively until 30th April ❤️

Sunny Food part 1 ☀️

With the launch of our new spring / summer menu, Saiphin’s been cooking up some of our favourite summery recipes to give us some inspiration.

First up is Khao Yum. This is a Southern Thai Rice Salad and is brand NEW on our menu. Here’s what you need 👇🏼

For the sauce:
2 smashed shallots
2 tbsp palm sugar
2 stalks lemongrass
2 galangal
Handful of lime leaves
3 tbsp water
2 tbsp soy sauce
Anchovies (optional)

Boil this for about 10 minutes

For the salad:
1 cup of rice (with red cabbage water)
Carrots
Lemongrass
Radish
Red cabbage
Bradley apple
Crushed chillies
Coconut shavings
Half a lime
Bean sprouts
Lime leaves

Once the rice is cooked, plate this up, squeeze over the lime and pour over your sauce. Mix it all up to enjoy all the fresh flavours combined. Enjoy ☺️

World Book Day is making us hungry 🤤

The perfect excuse to browse through our cookbooks for some delicious Thai recipes.

Here’s how to make G*i Tod Nam Pla (Chicken Wings in Fish Sauce):

What you need:
6 chicken wings
4 tablespoons fish sauce
1/2 tsp ground cumin
Vegetable oil
2 Pandan leaves
Fried onions, to garnish
Sweet chilli sauce, to serve

How to make this:
This one’s easy. Simply mix the chicken wings with fish sauce and ground cumin. Leave to marinate in the fridge for 1 hour.

Heat the oil in a wok over medium heat or a deep-fat fryer. Add Pandan leaves and marinated chicken wings.

Fry until the wings are golden brown and cooked through, and Pandan leaves are crisp.

Drain on kitchen paper, scatter over the fried onions and serve with the dipping sauce 🔥

Our Story

Born in the East. Raised in the East End. We are the home of modern Thai food, serving good & honest helpings of your favourite dishes.

Our first restaurant opened in 2008 on the site of an East End caff called Rosa’s. Out of respect for the previous owner (and as we had no money for new signs) we chose to keep the name. Over the years, our Thai co-founder Chef Saiphin has also become known as ‘Rosa’ – and so the name keeps being associated with good, honest food.

Saiphin grew up on a mountain farm in Khao Kho, northern Thailand, where she learned to cook with ingredients that were brought straight from field to wok. She also spent time in Hong Kong, before settling in London with her husband Alex.

As ‘Rosa’, Chef Saiphin challenges herself to cook authentic Thai dishes with local produce & a few key (secret) ingredients from Thailand. Every dish on the menu carries fond personal memories and many are based on old family recipes.
