As part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign Sam is taking on a "triple no ni**le challenge" to raise awareness and inspire people to check themselves.

At 19, Sam was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy to her chest. While the treatment saved her life, radiotherapy increased their risk of developing breast cancer later in life. She underwent a risk reduction double mastectomy in April 2025 and says that for her, it was the right decision. Now 32, she has tackled the London Marathon, Chase the Sun, a 205-mile cycle ride between sunrise and sunset, and a two-mile Swim Serpentine challenge in London – raising money for our charity partner CoppaFeel!. Sam took on all of her three challenges topless to start conversations, challenge perceptions and show that her body is strong and valid.

She said: "It's liberating! I'm doing them all topless to show off the scars. I want people to be able to advocate for themselves, go to the GP and, seeing my chest, think, 'I should probably check my chest, there's a bit of a lump, go get it checked out. I don't want to get scars like that.' I think it's beautiful, this survivor's body I live in and I'm really proud of it. But I know there'll be some people that feel differently, they might see that and go "I should get that little lump checked" and that's what I'm doing. I've lived through all that rubbish so that I can try and turn it into something good. I wanted to do something bold and brave and give people an opportunity to see it."

Sam also has a message for Asda customers: "Happy 30th birthday to Tickled Pink. What you guys have been doing over the years is amazing. I've been seeing that messaging since I was a kid and you know when Asda turns pink everybody knows about it. It's such a great platform to raise that awareness and raise that message and get people checking their chests and advocating for themselves and raising money for vital things like Breast Cancer Now and everything they do and CoppaFeel! and everything they do. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"Being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock" – the words of Asda customer Darren, who's a big advocate for our Tickled Pink campaign.

Darren is a regular at our Cannock store's Tickled Pink events raising money and awareness for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. He's always happy to chat to customers and colleagues about his experience and offer advice to anyone who needs it. He was diagnosed with grade two invasive ductal cancer in June 2023 after his wife Fiona felt a lump in his chest when he was lying down. She is registered blind and has a heightened sense of touch.

Darren said: "It was just a massive shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen. I think in a way I've been really lucky as from finding my lump to my op it was only six weeks. I am one of the very lucky few who haven't had to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm just on Tamoxifen for five years."

Asda Cannock community champion Sue said: "It's great having Darren at our events, where he's able to give a male perspective on breast cancer. It really brings it home that breast cancer doesn't discriminate, both men and women can get it."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from Asda Thornaby are at the heart of the store’s Tickled Pink activity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. πŸŽ€

They've all had breast cancer and, after recovering well, are using their own experiences to help customers and colleagues recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! in the process. πŸ’—

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about.

Congratulations to Grangemouth Old People's Welfare who were successful in their application for one of the Asda Foundations Better Together Fund grants.

I popped along to meet Jane and hand her a cheque for Β£500 which will be used to towards utility costs.

πŸ’— This year, Sam took on running, cycling and swimming challenges to help raise awareness for CoppaFeel!

After being diagnosed with cancer at 19 and later undergoing a double mastectomy, Sam chose to celebrate her body and encourage others to know their normal.

We're honoured that Sam shared her story as part of Tickled Pink.πŸ’•

The Tickled Pink awareness posters displayed in our St Leonards-on-Sea store played a huge part in our colleague Donna's decision to check herself – and when she did she found a small lump in her breast which turned out to be cancerous.

Seeing those reminders every day helped her to recognise what to look out for and encouraged her to take action. In August last year Donna, who's 46, found a tiny lump, less than a centimetre, just under her ni**le. At first, she thought it might be a harmless cyst, something that would disappear on its own, but after a few days it remained so, with a gentle nudge from her partner, John, she made the decision to visit her GP. A mammogram and biopsies were carried out, and within three weeks she found out she had Stage 1 breast cancer. In October, she underwent a full mastectomy, along with the removal of four lymph nodes under her arm, and then started chemotherapy. She's since made a great recovery and has returned to work.

Donna said: "My mum had breast cancer at about the same age as me so I was kind of aware, but I'm one those people who think everything's okay and never go to a doctor. I see all the Tickled Pink stuff at work every day. The posters are everywhere, even the toilets. You can't miss them. Their message worked as it made me very aware, and so I thought I'd better check myself. I'd like to think that a lot of our customers are seeing the messages too and checking themselves. The earlier you catch things, the easier it is to deal with it. Thankfully I caught mine early, so it was relatively easy to get rid of.

"Tickled Pink is a great charity and it's brilliant in raising awareness. I've always supported Tickled Pink in the store and worn the T shirts, we all do here. Our community champion Wendy always makes sure we are up for it."

I was invited along to attend the very first ever meeting of the newly established Snowdrop Cafe in Grangemouth.

Jayne started the first Snowdrop Cafe in Denny in 2019 and she has expanded to 3 more locations and, now her model has now been used to set up this new location in Grangemouth, at the Kirk of the Holy Road in Bowhouse Road every Wednesday from 1-3pm.

It was a slow start, and worrying times waiting to see how many would turn up, but we ended up with around 20 people in attendance and everyone had a great time. I helped serve teas and coffees and set up tables with some lovely cakes and biscuits. Asda Grangemouth donated teabags, coffee, diluting juice, sugar/sweetener, milk and a selection of cakes and biscuits.Well done Jayne for making this happen! - Hazel, Asda community champion

I made a surprise appearance at the Grangemouth Community Care's bi-weekly elderly lunch club today, and was given special dispensation to interrupt their game of bingo (dangerous, I know! πŸ€£πŸ˜€).

The interruption was to celebrate their success in receiving Β£500 from the Asda Foundations Better Together Fund grant.

The lovely Liz Brown, chair person of the charity, was on hand to accept the cheque.

Congratulations to everyone involved

Store managers. Community Champions and two dogs from Asda West Scotland regionjoined forces for our annual Tickled Pink sponsored walk - either 1 or 2 laps around the lake at Strathclyde Park which is 6km all the way around. It was a sea of pink everywhere you looked and everyone did so well, donning the wigs, tutu's, feather boa's, deely boppers and more! The final total for the region is pending! A great day was had by all 28 Community Champions, from across Scotland, who attended a Children In Need event at the BBC Studios in Glasgow.

We heard about how Children In Need fund groups with the money we fundraise in store and we heard about some of the groups who have received funding including ReelTime Music who, also attended, and led 4 breakaway activities showcasing the kinds of activities they run with the young people who utilise their services. We also got a tour of the BBC studios including the newsroom - very exciting and motivational.

I was invited along to the Inchyra Park Family Fun Day to have a Tickled Pink fundraising stall.

The sun was out, but so was the wind. I gave up with the gazebo and just enjoyed the sun and chatting to everyone who visited the stall, for a go at the tombola or Spin To Win. The stall raised a fantastic Β£157.60 which is brilliant for a small community event.

Thank you to The Friends of Inhyra Park and The Air Force Cadets for inviting me along πŸ˜€ See you same time next year πŸ˜‰

I popped along today, to Falkirk High School, to visit Peter Dormer of the Forth Valley Tridents who had helped to organise a week-long free swimming based Summer camp for children across Forth Valley.

Up to 40 children per day are planned to attend either a morning or afternoon session where lunch is provided. Lunch is an Asda Food To Go meal deal which is being funded by Falkirk Council, with the exception of 15, which were donated from Asda Stenhousemuir and Asda Grangemouth.

Each day sees the children do something different such as swimming, water polo, artistic swimming, and the week ends with a day full of games on Friday.

Well done to everyone involved in organising this amazing event 😁[Pictured left to right: Kyle, Peter Dormer, myself, Liz Storey and Chris Byrne (treasurer)].

West Scotland region were out in force to support Glasgow Pride with style!

12 Community Champions from across the region, along with our two lead GSMs marched in the parade that started and ended at Glasgow Green after working its way right around the city centre. Several of us had bought - and spent many an hour making up - windmills, which we gave out to children and revellers lining the parade route. Many of the adults were more excited than the children to receive them, bringing back memories of their childhoods.

Well done to us all; we all did fabulously, especially in the scorching heat.

I popped along, this morning, to visit Paul, and met his team of volunteers who run the community cafe, out of the Kersiebank Community & Education Centre.

The group run the community cafe, put on special events and fundraise to buy more produce that can be used to feed members who use the cafe. They also share any excess resources with the Grangemouth Community Pantry, who operate out of the same building. Paul took me along and introduced me to the ladies, who volunteer there, and we chatted about how we can work together moving forward.

I saw the community cafe set-up and took along a donation of cold meats, salad items, bread and rolls which, was gratefully received. These items will be used within the completely free community cafe for toastie day, lunches, etc πŸ˜€
