Is this finally it?
Have we slipped free from spring’s cold little grip?
Or is this just another beautifully timed false start, the sun flirting with us before disappearing behind a grey cloud by 2pm?

Like moths to a flame, we choose optimism anyway.

So we’ll be here all weekend, 9 til 4, doing what we do.
Come dressed for the version of the weather you believe in:
freshly purchased swim shorts and blind faith,
or a parka zipped right to the chin.

Either way, Catch you soon!

Been doing a lot of new things in here recently so here they all are so they’re immortalised on the grid. New bakes on the shelves, new roasters on the bar. Summer’s coming, and we’re getting ready for it. If a single walk in the park doesn’t involve you seeing either an SLB cup or a baked good, we have failed. 🙂‍↕️

Here for the full bank holiday weekend. See you at 9AM. ☀️

It is the perfect day to completely HUMILIATE yourself with a saffron and vanilla bun in the park. Strands of saffron through the pastry, and vanilla custard oozing out everywhere. Delicious, messy, lick off your fingers brilliance. Don’t ask us to cut it in half. 🔪

Pairs perfectly with our espresso tonic making a storming comeback. Made with Bukonzo Dream from , we’ve upped our game with a yuuuuuuuuuuge slice of CANDIED orange. The result is pure citrusy bliss. Tastes like the coldest can of some soft drink you’ve never heard of that’s the flavour of a fruit you’re not even sure exists while on holiday. Also orange. 🍬 🍊

Winter is finally, finally over. Open at 9AM. See you soon. ☀️

Short Long Black turns eight years old today! EIGHT (8). A big, big age. Eight in coffee shop years equates to roughly four hundred years. Multiple refurbishments, countless generation-defining global crises, and a s**t through the letterbox. We’ve weathered it all and are still standing. It’s got us feeling nostalgic, but it’s also got us feeling immensely proud of everything we’ve accomplished here on Victoria Road.

Above, you’ll find memories sourced from the camera rolls of multiple staff members, past and present. Incredible, hard working, skilled, beautiful, hilarious people have worked and do work here. We’ve had some of the best coffee roasters in the world on our shelves, some of the most talented bakers in our kitchen, and the best baristas in the city on our bar. However.

You do not make it eight years without people making the very special choice to come in every single day and share a little chunk of time with you. It’s a decision so many of you have made, perhaps subconsciously, but it is literally what keeps this place going. It is you that has made us (Can we say this? We’re saying it!) a Southside institution. Dependable, solid, always open, always great. Just a flat white no sugar and a pain suisse, please. At the end of the day, this whole thing is mutual, and symbiotic. We’re there for you because you’re there for us.

We have seen customers’ children go from stomachs to prams to standing to school. We’ve seen customers leave the area and come back. House offers accepted and fallen through, new jobs, uni degrees started and finished, pets acquired and lost. We’ve maybe seen a few minutes of the best day of your life or maybe even your worst. You’d be surprised at how much life can happen in the fairly swift and trademarked SLB transaction. From sitting in, to queuing in the pandemic, to standing at the lean bar. Thanks for supporting it all. And if you’ve only visited once, that’s fine. But maybe stop by a bit more so we can do this for another eight years.

Happy birthday to us, and thanks to everyone to who has made SLB what it is. Come by today and help us celebrate! 🎉🎉🎉

Here mate I’m not a grass but… I saw Judas the last night and he was really running his mouth to Pontius Pilate. It’s probably nothing but just thought I’d let you know.

Open as normal all weekend. See you soon. 🐣

Pspt pspt pspt pspt heeeeeeere Govanhill citizens your dinner is ready!

Happy Spring Equinox and to you all! Sun is out, there’s finally some heat in the air, and it turns out it’s true what they say: our milkshake (as in, milk shaken with ice and espresso) does indeed bring all the boys (and girls, and NBs) to the yard.

Come see us today. 9-4. You know what to do.

The beginning of what is hopefully many dreamy spring days with the door open. Winter is busy in here and also lasts so long that we forget the warmer months are actually even busier until they have us by the throat. Iced coffee season is already back with a ferocity that makes us frightened for the hot days ahead. In fact, can it be called a season when it lasts all year round? Who decides the length of a season? Are we born with an innate sense of justice? Is my favourite fictional character a good person? Is this multinational corporation my friend? Does the barista in the local coffee shop believe in forgiveness? And if he does, why won’t he forgive ME?

See you tomorrow at 9AM where we will answer none of those questions. Thank you again for the last couple of days. 🌸🌺🌷🌼

Spring is finally, finally here. Gorgeous day. Perfect SLB weather. Perfect day to try this, our new rhubarb soda… which just looks like a glass of ice water against the similarly coloured shop but there’s stuff in there HONEST. Delicious, sweet, refreshing, made in-house perfect for the season. It’s great. Well we like it maybe you don’t who knows who cares you’ll get what you’re given!!

We got you through winter, now we’re here for you in spring. Open at 9AM every day. See you soon. 🌸

Sometimes you just gotta take your butter-coloured SLB cup out for a walk on a crisp, cold day to survey the first flashes of other butter-coloured things coming up from the ground. Those, and whatever is also purple-coloured. The colours of a Mini Egg packet coming out the ground! Probably next to an actual Mini Egg packet depending on what street you’re on in the Southside.

Spring would appear to be on the way, folks. For now, however, still some time for chilly walks with chilly hands that get slightly less chilly with warm flat whites in them. Come get some.

We have resisted matcha for a while. Specialty coffee shops are kind of in a bizarre position these days where we’re all kind of beholden to social media and, especially of late, Sweet Treat Culture. Matcha has been a weird one to navigate because it’s both this and not. So many people have come in looking for something they saw On Their Feed. We have been like, we don’t have the thing On Your Feed, but we have something Not On Your Feed that’s just as delicious, but that’s sometimes Not Good Enough for no reason than it’s Not On Your Feed. Sometimes these things pass fairly quickly (coconut milk, agave syrup lmao) and sometimes they don’t.

Ultimately, we want to give people what they want, but we also want to make sure we do it Our Way, regardless of Your Feed. Because at the end of the day, You come here because we’re Us, and there’s no point in doing something unless it feels true to Us. End of point-making random capitalisation.

So. Just in time for the dying belches of winter, we present matcha lattes with our in-house rhubarb syrup. It’s delicious, and neither obscene or pushing the boundaries of sugary decency, and we can live with that. It’s sweet, jammy, and most importantly balanced, which is what we always strive for across all our drinks. The matcha also compliments our cardamom and brown sugar syrup beautifully, FYI.

Giving you the things you want, Our Way. The SLB Method. Serving until the next industry-shaking TikTok hits Your Feed. 🍵 📱
