It’s that time of year, Damson season. We’ve moaned about the weather a lot this year but it’s done wonders for our soft fruits…
Jodie and Sally have been busy harvesting lots of fruits, apples and pears from the Croft garden. Some of these damsons are on their way into a big pot for damson chutney making - we’re serving some of this this week for a dinner at Roseisle Distillery…
Some of the Apples will make pies, some chutneys, cake fillings, ACV, and savory dishes, a few will go into the Christmas baking we know you all love.
It’s a funny season Autumn, it might be one of my favourites, it’s abundant in a different way to the summer and where we get see the fruits of the growing labour which is delightful. But Vitamin D is running low up here in Moray this year… I’m not into the pumpkin spice latte American traditions, but I am into homegrown Damson gin, a wedge of and a Damson Chutney on the side, maybe some slices of Beef Heart Pastrami…
