🥃 WOW!! Whisky of the Week 🥃

This week we're heading to the rugged shores of the Isle of Skye for one of Scotland's most distinctive island malts – Talisker 10 Year Old.

Produced at the oldest working distillery on Skye, Talisker has been crafted beside the sea since 1830. The wild coastline, sea air and rugged landscape have helped shape a whisky that is instantly recognisable and full of character.

Expect gentle peat smoke, warming spice and a distinctive maritime character, with notes of pepper, sea salt, citrus and a lingering smoky finish.

It's a whisky that captures the spirit of the islands perfectly – bold, warming and wonderfully balanced.

Well, what a scorcher it was yesterday! ☀️🔥

While the tarmac outside was doing its best impression of molten lava, we were trying to keep things nice and cool inside for our fortnightly bingo.

Although we were a little down on numbers, those who joined us certainly made up for it with plenty of laughs, banter, and excitement.

We had a few multiple winners during the evening, including one lucky lady who pulled off an amazing hat-trick of wins! A couple of other players weren't far behind, bagging themselves double wins too.

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the heat and came along. Your support means a lot, and it's always great to see everyone enjoying themselves, whatever the weather.

With temperatures expected to reach around 35°C today, please spare a thought for any elderly relatives, neighbours or vulnerable friends who may be struggling in the heat.

A quick phone call, a knock on the door, or offering to pick up some shopping or a few cold drinks can make a real difference. Make sure people are keeping hydrated, staying out of the sun where possible and keeping their homes as cool as they can.

As for me, I definitely fall into the “too hot” camp! Unless you're one of those people who absolutely loves this weather, I think many of us will be looking for a cooler spot today.

Here at the Golden Bowler we're doing our best to keep things comfortable, with strategic window opening, curtains closed to keep the sun out, fans running and the coolers and fridges working overtime to keep the drinks nicely chilled.

It's Bingo night tonight too, which at the moment feels like the perfect activity - sitting down, staying cool and having a bit of fun with good company.

Take care of yourselves, check in on each other, and stay safe in the heat. 💛

☀️ Heatwave Alert ☀️

I went downstairs to find Kevin this morning and discovered that he'd apparently moved into the cellar.

His explanation?

"It's 13 degrees down here."

A deckchair - A newspaper - Plenty of beer ... and not a care in the world.

He insists he's getting the beers ready for service. Oh Really?!

While the rest of us melt outside, Kevin appears to have mastered the art of surviving (skiving!) a heatwave.

We're open today from 2:45pm to 8pm (if I can get Kevin out of the deck chair!)🍻

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grandads and gentlemen celebrating today.

While we can't offer a traditional Sunday roast, we can offer something just as important – a warm welcome, a relaxed atmosphere and a great selection of drinks to enjoy after the main event.

🏆 Quiz Night Results – Better Late Than Never! 🏆

We had a fantastic turnout for Wednesday's quiz, especially considering England's World Cup opener was on at the same time! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for another great evening of questions, laughs and friendly competition.

After yet another nail-biting tie-break for second place, the final standings were:

🥇 1st Place – Bob the Builder 👏
🥈 2nd Place – Quiz Quad 🎉
🥉 3rd Place – The 4 Bidden 👍

This week's tie-break was a bit of fun, with teams having to guess the number of pieces in a LEGO kit! After some impressive estimating, Quiz Quad managed to edge ahead of The 4 Bidden to claim second place.

We're also delighted to say that, thanks to your generosity, we raised £29.50 for Dementia Friendly Hampshire ❤️

Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to everyone who came along, took part, and supported both the quiz and our chosen charity. We look forward to seeing you all again for another great night of quizzing soon!
