🌀 LAUNCHING TODAY: DEEPER

We’re incredibly excited to launch DEEPER—a brand-new monthly Sunday session with Exeter DJ Spider.

Drawing on 40 years of serious record collecting, Spider takes over 12 Bar for four uninterrupted hours dedicated to the true art of the long-form DJ set.

Beginning with soul and jazz before moving through jazz-funk, Afro, Latin and disco—and into the deepest house cuts of today—the music will gradually build across the afternoon, inspired by legendary New York parties such as The Loft and Body & Soul.

Don’t expect hands-in-the-air anthems. Do expect heavyweight, hypnotic grooves for dancers, diggers and anyone who wants to hear something deeper.

Soul · Jazz · Funk · Afro · Latin · Disco · Deep House

📍 12 Bar Music & Social
📅 Today — Sunday 27 September

🌿 JUST ANNOUNCED: THE SPINNEYS

Contemporary folk duo The Spinneys are coming to 12 Bar for an intimate evening of vivid storytelling, beautiful harmonies and music rooted in the traditions of the British Isles.

Formed by cellist and singer-songwriter Lily Dumain and Devon-based songwriter Jamie Rudd, the pair reshape traditional tunes and original songs through cello, guitar, mandolin, harmonica and powerful two-part vocals.

Moving between delicately told stories and music brimming with life, this feels like a performance made for the close surroundings of our little venue.
For fans of The Unthanks, The Staves and This Is The Kit.

🚨 JUST ANNOUNCED: BOARDS OF CANADA — HI SCORES

This is a big one.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Boards of Canada’s landmark Hi Scores EP is returning to vinyl for the first time since 2014—and we’ve managed to secure just 10 copies for 12 Bar.

Originally released by Skam in 1996, this was Boards of Canada’s first widely available release and contains some of their most enduring music, including “Turquoise Hexagon Sun” and “Everything You Do Is a Balloon.”
The new edition marks its first release on Warp Records and comes on black vinyl in a gatefold 12” sleeve with four full-size art prints.

If this one has been missing from your collection, we wouldn’t hang around—only ten vinyl copies are available from us.

💿 Black 12” vinyl and CD
📅 Released 20 November

WHAT’S ON AT 12 BAR THIS WEEK? 📚🎶

Quiet reading, orchestral art-pop, wonky nu-jazz and four hours of deep Sunday selections. A rather lovely few days ahead…

📚 THURSDAY 24 SEPTEMBER — SILENT BOOK CLUB
Bring whatever you’re currently reading, find a cosy corner and enjoy an evening of uninterrupted reading with Exeter City of Literature.

No assigned book. No discussion questions. No pressure to socialise. Just good books, good drinks and some much-needed quiet time.

🌒 FRIDAY 25 SEPTEMBER — ANTONÍ
Poetic folk meets orchestral art-pop as Berlin-based songwriter ANTONÍ brings her debut album to 12 Bar.

Blending chamber pop, jazz and cinematic electronics, her music moves from whisper-quiet intimacy to richly layered arrangements—hypnotic, atmospheric and made for close listening.

🌀 SATURDAY 26 SEPTEMBER — KING HERON
Bristol’s King Heron return with their brilliantly distinctive collision of nu-jazz, hard-edged grooves and math-rock-infused improvisation.

Wonky, nerdy and unapologetically their own, this is a trio at their best onstage—taking the music somewhere different every time they play.

🪩 SUNDAY 27 SEPTEMBER — DEEPER WITH DJ SPIDER
Drawing on 40 years of serious record collecting, Exeter DJ Spider of Wax The Van takes over 12 Bar from 12–4pm.

Expect Afro-Latin soul, disco, jazz-funk and deep house across a proper four-hour journey—because some records need room to breathe.

Four days. Four completely different ways to spend time at 12 Bar.

Tickets for ANTONÍ and King Heron are available through the link in our bio. We’d love to see you 💛
