WE’RE HIRING

We’re looking for a full-time Barista / Store Assistant to join the team at 12 Bar Music & Social.

We’re searching for someone who loves people, takes pride in great hospitality, and who believes that music and connection can make the world a better place — one coffee, one record, one small, powerful moment at a time.

This role requires previous barista experience and confidence working in a busy specialty coffee environment. We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running and maintain high standards of coffee quality and customer service.

You’ll be helping people discover new music, building relationships with regulars, supporting events and contributing to the atmosphere that makes 12 Bar what it is.

• 30–40 hours per week
• Previous barista experience essential
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends
• Passion for music, culture and community

Please note: this is a permanent full-time position and is unlikely to be suitable for students due to the hours and availability required.

THE ROBERT BRIAN QUARTET - ECLECTIC FUSION JAZZ 🥁

Grammy-winning drummer and producer Robert Brian returns to his first love — jazz — bringing a electrifying mix of swing, Latin, funk, drum & bass and everything in between to 12 Bar.

Rob’s impressive career spans collaborations with Siouxsie Sioux, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel and Goldfrapp, and that breadth of influence is written all over the Quartet’s sound: rooted in jazz tradition but fearlessly modern, with inventive rhythms, tight arrangements and room for open improvisation.

Joining him on the night are Mat Sibley on tenor saxophone, John-Paul Gard on keyboards and synths, and Paul Jefferies on upright and electric bass — a lineup of seasoned jazz musicians who together create something genuinely fresh. 🎷

Whether you’re a longtime jazz fan or just after a great live music experience, this one’s not to be missed.

A few moments from this week in our little corner of Exeter 💛

We hosted another brilliant Without End, featuring spoken word and poetry from Fly By Falling - who travelled all the way from deepest, darkest Cornwall to share his words with us. It was another special evening of creativity, connection and reflection.

Friday saw the debut performance from The Molten Jazz Project, bringing together some incredible players and a fantastic crowd. Thank you to everyone who joined us for what felt like a very special first chapter.

On Saturday, Austel performed her beautiful new album Mirror To Mine. It’s a stunning record, and hearing it brought to life in such an intimate setting was a real privilege. We have a small number of limited copies available in-store, and we’d highly recommend picking one up. A huge thank you to everyone who came down to support the show and a massive shout out to Angel Joy who performed a wonderful support set.

In between, there was plenty of great coffee, records, conversation and community — the things that make this place what it is.

Thank you to everyone who spent part of their week with us. Whether you came for a gig, a coffee, a record, a chat, or simply a moment away from the noise of the world, we’re grateful to have you here.

Their sound feels both close and expansive — weaving harmonies, fingerpicked guitars, and an eclectic selection of supporting instruments into arrangements that shimmer with warmth and sincerity 🔥

Without End is a sound-drawing workshop; like a life-drawing class but with improvised music instead of a model. Lose yourself in your creative mind without interruption, small talk or distraction. Bring a sketchbook, notebook, knitting, or simply yourself. Be selfish about creating.

🎷 FRIDAY — MOLTEN JAZZ PROJECT

The Molten Jazz Project are a South West–based quartet formed through the region’s jam scene, built on long-standing musical connections and a shared love of live improvisation. Each performance is shaped by their chemistry and years of shared experience on stage, resulting in music that feels alive, responsive and full of character. Expect a night of instinctive playing, strong musical personalities and a band that leans fully into the moment.

🌊 SATURDAY — AUSTEL

We’re thrilled to welcome back Austel to 12 Bar, this time with her full band and her songs in their richest, most expansive form. Austel’s latest material leans into a more intimate, folk-tinged sound — raw, personal and deeply atmospheric — while still carrying the spacious, cinematic quality that defines her work.
