I love a nuts idea right…So when the bell ringers of Fordham told us it’s…National Burger Day soon and falls on Thursday 27th August, I thought we’d celebrate it properly. That said…. apparently serving an enormous burger wasn’t enough… so we’ve teamed up with the brilliant Fordham Bellringers!

So… while we’re opposite the church…stacking beef patties, smoked brisket, bacon jam and enough cheese to upset your bathroom scales, the Bellringers will be up the tower ringing the bells to celebrate National Burger Day with us! Only in Fordham could you order a burger at the pub and have the church bells ring out in celebration….. (read further for the reasons why….)

And THAT is exactly the sort of thing we love. Two completely different parts of our little village coming together, having a bit of fun and creating something that hopefully gets people talking, laughing and enjoying where we live. The Crown brings the burgers, the Bellringers bring the bells… seems a perfectly sensible partnership to us…

So this coming Thursday, if you hear the bells ringing across Fordham, you’ll know why. It’s not a wedding. It’s not a royal visit. It’s just us serving the burgers..

Massive thanks to the Fordham Bellringers for joining in with our nonsense and helping us make National Burger Day a proper little Fordham occasion… and for this we have decided that for every burger we sell on Thursday night… we will give back £5 to the church… that’s right… every burger you order.. I’ve give a blue one… that’s a note…not a pill… to the church 👌🤘.

So they got the bells. We’ve got the burgers. You lot just need to turn up hungry and know that every burger you order I’ll drop £5 back into the church funds to support the bells..

Get online and book a table.. or turn up and get feed 👍.

Listen Linda… Linda listen..… We LOVE dogs. They’re welcome here, we’re dog friendly, and frankly some of them behave considerably better than their owners…..

THAT SAID… My team right… they pour pints. They serve food. They fix things. They organise events and we all occasionally pretend we know what we’re doing… One thing I don’t remember is putting on anyone’s job description is we’re all Chief Dog Sh%t Collectors... 😂

Come on guys… we’ve got kids playing in the garden. The last thing little ‘Timmy’ needs while chasing a football is to discover that someone’s Labrador has left him a warm surprise in the grass….

So please, bring your dogs. Bring the big ones, little ones, fluffy ones, ugly ones and the ones that stare at us like we owe them money. We genuinely love having them….

But if your four-legged mate decides to curl one out in the garden… bag it, bin it, job done. Because these dumps… well… they’re just SH7t, ain’t they to be honest..

Today’s a pretty big day for lots of our local young people right….GCSE results are in! Whether you’re jumping for joy, wondering what on earth some of those numbers mean, or just relieved it’s finally all over… you’ve made it right… well done 👏.

So, if you’re coming to the pub for dinner today, bring your GCSE results along with you and we’ll treat you to a pudding on us!

Yep… you did the hard work, survived the revision, exams, stress and the inevitable “HOW DID IT GO?!” from every adult you’ve ever met… so the least we can do is supply the sugar!!!

Whatever is written on that piece of paper today, be proud of yourself. Results are important, but they certainly don’t define you…. I can absolutely guarantee that one….there are loads of exciting roads ahead….

So there you have it… GCSE student + results + dinner at The Crown = FREE PUDDING!
Congratulations to everyone getting their results today. Now get yourselves down here, grab some dinner and celebrate properly with the fam…

So, we’re looking for some more legends to join our slightly chaotic but genuinely brilliant team…. We’re currently recruiting for bar staff, full-time and part-time Kitchen Porters (KPs), and casual Front of House staff.

If you’re looking at the bar role, you’ll need to be able to smile, chat to customers, work as part of a team and eventually develop the supernatural ability to know who’s next at the bar despite seven people simultaneously shouting “I’ll still waiting!” ( Terry) Experience is great, but a brilliant attitude, reliability and actually turning up when you’re supposed to are even better!!

For our Kitchen Porters, glamorous it is not. Important it absolutely is. You’ll be one of the unsung heroes of the kitchen, battling plates, pans, cutlery and the occasional roasting tray that appears to have been welded together with gravy. We’ve got both full-time and part-time positions available, so if you’re hardworking, reliable and don’t run away at the sight of a Sunday roast service, get in touch….

We’re also looking for casual Front of House staff for those busy shifts when apparently the entire population of Cambridgeshire/Suffolk decides to visit us at exactly the same time….You’ll need to be friendly, confident, hardworking and capable of carrying plates while answering “where are the toilets?” despite the person asking standing approximately six inches away from them..

Experience is helpful, but attitude is everything. We can teach you the job. What we can’t teach is turning up on time, working hard, helping your teammates and actually giving a t%%s about giving our customers a great experience….

In return, you’ll join a fantastic team, work in a busy village pub, meet some brilliant people and eventually develop the unique ability to hear the words “while you’re there…” from approximately 300 metres away….

Slight change of plan today, folks… we’re opening at 1pm, with food from 2pm!…

Why? Have we overslept? Hangovers? Has someone lost the keys? Nope… we’re getting the whole team together for a proper catch-up before we open the doors.

As we get busier, it’s really important that we make time to sit down together, talk about what’s working, what isn’t, and what we can do better. Standards matter. Consistency matters. And most importantly, we never want to get into the mindset of “that’ll do.” There’s always something we can improve…

It’s also a chance for everyone to have their say, share ideas, sort out the little niggles and make sure we’re all pulling in the same direction… ideally without anyone being put on the naughty step…. (Normally Me)

So we’re sacrificing an hour today to invest a bit of time in our team, keep pushing standards and make sure we continue making The Crown better and better.

Doors open at 1pm, food from 2pm. Thanks for bearing with us and we’ll see you at 13:00…

And yes… the meeting will probably last 20 minutes and the remaining 40 will be everyone arguing about who keeps leaving lemons in the sink…

Morning! I’m told we’re apparently not having a quiet September…

We kick things off on Tuesday 1st September with SPEED POOL! Think you’re quick with a cue? It’s £1 a go and the fastest clearance takes the pot. Simple really… although judging by some of the pool we’ve witnessed, we may still be there Wednesday morning…..

Then on Friday 4th September, DEAL OR NO DEAL is BACK! 22 boxes, one lucky player and a pub full of people shouting completely contradictory advice. Registering details will follow…prepare to discover just how greedy your mates really think you are…

On Monday 7th September it’s CHARITY QUIZ NIGHT! Same format as last time, £4 per person and the winning team gets to choose the charity. Come armed with completely useless knowledge and make sure your team has that one person who mysteriously knows every capital city, obscure footballer and 1980s number one….

Then Tuesday 22nd September brings KILLER POOL KNOCKOUT! 🎱 Just £1 entry and one by one you’ll fall until we discover who really is THE LAST PERSON STANDING. Friendships will be tested, excuses will be made and somebody will definitely blame the cue… or the table….

Then apparently we’re turning The Crown into a proper social club….. So…on Sunday 27th September we’ve got SUNDAY NIGHT BINGO! 👀 Eyes down at 7pm, with prizes and cash to be won. Dabbers at the ready and absolutely NO shouting “HOUSE!” unless you’re bloody sure…..

Finally, Friday 2nd October sees DEAL OR NO DEAL return AGAIN! Because once clearly wasn’t enough and we apparently enjoy watching grown adults have a complete emotional breakdown over a red box…..

So there you have it… pool, boxes, quizzes, killer pool, bingo and probably a considerable amount of chaos. September at The Crown is looking rather busy….

Get the dates in the diary, tag the mate who’ll definitely claim they’re “really good at pool”, and we’ll see you at the bar….

Morning you lot… ..Don’t worry, you’ll all be bored of me again soon. Just because I disappeared for a couple of weeks doesn’t mean we stopped doing what we said we’d do behind the scenes…..

And this one I’m SUPER proud of… introducing the brand-new Fordham FC Youth Fire U13s kit! And would you look at that… THE CROWN FORDHAM sitting proudly on the front and back!

When we took over The Crown, we said we wanted this pub to be part of the village, not just a place that sells beer….and we meant it. The line-painting machine wasn’t enough for us… So now we moved on to kitting out the kids too!

There is something genuinely bloody brilliant about seeing our Crown logo on the shirts of a local kids football team. These are exactly the things we want to support and exactly where we want to put something back. We might not be some massive corporate chain with enormous sponsorship budgets… but we’re here, we’re local, and when we can help our community, we will.

So a massive good luck to Fordham FC Youth Fire U13s for the season ahead. Wear them with pride, score loads of goals and, most importantly, try not to cover that lovely Crown logo in too much mud… we paid good money for that 😜.

Community over profits. All day long!!!!

REMEMBER ME?!…

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet for the last couple of weeks. Life got a tiny bit busy… school holidays arrived, the children’s holiday took over, ‘normal life’ disappeared and apparently running a pub while attempting to fully multi task is quite time consuming. Who knew?! 😂

I haven’t disappeared, I haven’t lost interest and I definitely haven’t retired… despite what Terry Jackson may have been hoping. 😂 Thanks for checking I was still alive, Terry!

Before I tell you about some of the things we’ve been quietly plotting in the background, I need to give a massive shout-out to our EPIC Crown team. While I’ve been slightly AWOL, they’ve been absolutely smashing it, working incredibly hard and keeping everything going. I genuinely couldn’t ask for a better bunch. ❤️ Thank you!

Anyway… I’M BACK! SORRY! And what better way to kick things off than with a bit of live music?! 🎸🎤 THE MIGHTY MACCA IS COMING TO THE CROWN!

Next Saturday 22nd August from 9pm, we welcome The Mighty Macca to The Crown, Fordham. This one has been booked by popular request….apparently you lot have been asking for Macca, so we listened!

Expect proper songs, questionable dance moves, plenty of singalongs, cold beer and absolutely zero chance of a quiet Saturday night…..We genuinely cannot wait to have The Mighty Macca with us.

And as for everything else we’ve been planning while I’ve been quiet… I’ll get to that tomorrow….. 👀 There’s plenty going on in the background and I’ll start sharing it all over the next few days.
