Carina in Print - A funny time of year, The Scots Magazine.
I’m sitting with my favourite godson Giovanni and I mentioned I’ve to write my column about Halloween. He reminded me, it’s his favourite time of year.
When I was little I loved Halloween even more than Christmas too. Getting dressed up, dooking for apples, trick or treat, Halloween parties. We always merged Halloween and Guy Fawkes and had a bonfire too. Maybe it’s because you got to do things with your friends rather than your family? Maybe it’s just the start of the longer, colder, dark nights and the fun and games of this time of year and the scary stories that seem to match the season so very well. Ghosts and ghouls keep the thrills with the chills.
Incidentally, if you’re looking for a great bit of TV to get you in the mood, if the children have all left home, and you’ve nobody to go guising with, Widow’s Bay is fantastic. There were bits I found far too scary to watch. It’s so good I’m very impatiently waiting for season 2.
The Kitchen Garden is looking less cheery. It’s giving up its intense bright colours of the summer and the burnt auburn shades are also slowly being hidden with the last of the leaves that are holding on for dear life. We harvested over 100 pumpkins this year. They are being used for the most delicious pumpkin velouté at Cannonball Restaurant. The perfect excuse to make a visit to taste and to visit our in-house ghost...
