We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved Coco Carbonelle, the sassy First Lady of MDM, passed away earlier today and crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
From the very beginning of her journey with MDM in 2015, all the way to her retirement in November 2024, Coco always brought joy, laughter, comfort and companionship to so many guests. She made so many friends, collected countless admirers (including Alain, not that she reciprocated), and firmly established herself as one of the most loved family members of Maison de Moggy.
If you ever met Coco, you’ll know that she did everything on her own terms.
She was beautiful, confident, and wonderfully sassy. She walked with a strut and a waddle, and everyone was captivated by those incredible eyes. She had perfected her signature trick of the belly trap, proudly presenting that big fluffy tummy to anyone who would fall for it, before screaming at them for petting her there. Towards the end of her time at the cafe she enjoyed being the centre of attention under our central tree, and even holding hands with guests who would sit with her.
When Coco retired, we expected her to slow down and enjoy a different pace of life. Instead, she seemed to embrace retirement with even more enthusiasm. Her arthritis seemed to improve with a change of treatment, leaping up onto couches and tables when she had zoomies. She spent many retired days finding sunny spots to bask and make her biscuits in, while being surrounded by love and adoration. Being that special sassy girl, she’d not always reciprocate that affection, but we knew she loved us at least a tiny bit as much as we loved her.
Unfortunately over the last few days, Coco developed an acute kidney issue which led to some further complications. Our bright-eyed girl fought with incredible courage and determination, and we are so immensely proud of her bravery, but when the time came, we knew the kindest gift we could give her was a peaceful and dignified farewell.
There will never be another Coco Carbonelle.
You will always be the First Lady of Maison de Moggy, and you will be loved, remembered and missed beyond words.
🖤 Coco Carbonelle 🖤
