Hello loyal Smiddites and sorry for the lack of information since we closed. It's been a difficult time.
The last few weeks have passed in a a blur of phone calls and frantic meetings. Thankyou to everyone who has given their time to trying to help us get back open (I am looking at you and you ) not to mention the always epic . Special thanks also need to go to Kidd & Co (the best landlords and catering suppliers in town) Andrew, Davey and our epic butchers
Sadly we have come to the realisation that we cannot keep trading as we had. A combination of our lack of indoor seating and issues relating to the age of our HQ building have made us face the fact that the company cannot continue without investment. We considered crowdfunding, but it didn't seem fair in the current climate. As such we have been forced to close the doors and put out the fires.
My obsession with bringing authentic Texan style barbecue to Scotland is as strong as ever and we are currently talking to investors and restaurant operators with a view to getting a bigger, badder Smiddy back up and running. In the meantime, thank you to all the staff, suppliers and customers who made the Smiddy what it is. It's hard to express now how much your passion for our barbecue meant to myself and the team. Genuinely all that kept us going on the long smokes was your feedback and encouragement. There wouldn't have been a Smiddy without all you barbecue loving loons.
In the meantime I will be keeping my hand in on the butchery front working with If you need the raw ingredients for barbecue (or a Turkey) come say hi.
It was the hardest yet most rewarding thing I have ever done to cook Q for you all and I hope one day we do it again.
Until then, stay classy Edinburgh & all hail The Smiddy!
Love,
Cameron & The Smiddy Pitcrew x
