Asda customer Joanna's visits to our South Ruislip store are going to be a bit different throughout October – she'll be seeing pictures of herself in the store as part of our Tickled Pink 30th anniversary celebrations!

Mother-of-three Joanna is sharing her experience of stage 3 breast cancer, which she discovered after going to see her GP to check out a subtle texture change in her breast, to raise awareness of the importance of regularly checking yourself for anything unusual.

She's very grateful for Asda's Tickled Pink campaign and everyone who's been involved in fundraising over 30 years: "I'd like to say a huge thank you to Asda Tickled Pink because its financial input makes a real difference so that Breast Cancer Now can have things in place to support everybody. Whether they're someone going through a cancer treatment, thinking they might have cancer, or if they're a family member of someone with cancer."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from our Thornaby store are all using their own experiences to spread awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – and in the process have raised tens of thousands of pounds for our Tickled Pink campaign as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The trio have all had breast cancer and are well known in the store and the local community for dressing up in pink wigs and tutus and holding fundraising events for the campaign's charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! which always go down well with customers and colleagues.

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. Awareness is the big thing for for me and checking yourself is so important. That’s what Tickled Pink does; it gets the message out there. Cancer is just a big scary word, but we must try to not look at the doom and gloom of it all. There are lots of positives. Medical research has improved leaps and bounds to what it was years ago. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about."

Pauline has recently retired, although she's already returned to the store to continue her fundraising. She's been instrumental in establishing a second-hand book stall at the front of the store for customers and colleagues which brings in about £2,000 to £3,000 a year for Tickled Pink. She said: We are the faces of Tickled Pink here and we are always here for anyone who needs to talk. In years gone by breast cancer wasn't talked about, but thankfully it is now. Tickled Pink has made breast cancer an everyday word; it's nothing to shy away from."

Julie has had breast cancer twice and says Tickled Pink's message of raising awareness of the importance of regularly checking yourself is vital. She said: "Early detection is so, so important, and I feel so lucky. This year I've been to the celebrations of my son, Martin, who has turned 40, and my oldest grand-daughter Ellie who turned 21 and graduated from university too. I've a little grand-daughter, Maisie, who's just turned six who I may not have even met, so I'm really thankful."

Look out for wonderful volunteers like Avter who'll be in our stores this weekend raising awareness and money for our Tickled Pink campaign, which supports charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!.

Avter's a regular customer at our Gillingham Pier store and has shared her experience of breast cancer as part of Tickled Pink's 30th anniversary celebrations. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer as a young mother at the age of 22 and she found the whole experience both lonely and terrifying and felt very isolated. So when in 2024, at the age of 56, she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer she was determined things would be different. Rather than bottling up her experiences and trying to hide the fact she has breast cancer, Avter is sharing her story to help others like her feel less alone. She has attended Moving Forward, a course funded by Tickled Pink, designed to enable women like Avter to meet regularly, share their experiences and help each other.

She said: "The first time I had cancer there was nothing, no support, but this time I felt I’ve had a lot of support and not just from family and friends. I will talk to people about it because I think it’s important and there are resources are out there that weren’t there before. Moving Forward was brilliant. They hold sessions, face-to-face, and they have volunteers that come in and host the groups. And through there I met three other ladies who’ve been through breast cancer and we keep in contact through our WhatsApp group and we meet every three months and we support each other. It’s been lovely to be able to talk about it.

"It’s lovely to go on the Breast Cancer Now website to look at all the resources. I’m on it all the time! I’m on Exemestane, which is an estrogen blocker, and initially I was on Letrozole. And it’s just nice to think, 'Am I alone going through these symptoms?' but you see other people’s stories on there and the forums on there are fab. I like hearing of people’s success stories."

Blooms Café opened its doors in May and has gone from strength to strength!

The café is free and open to everyone, including children, and every Thursday morning from 10am–12pm, we offer free hot drinks, cakes and biscuits.

There are also games, newspapers and colouring available — or simply come along for a warm welcome, a friendly chat and some company.

I was volunteering today alongside Gloria and Gail, without whom this wonderful project would never have got off the ground. A huge thank you to them for all their hard work, dedication and support.

And a very special mention to Gloria, who is getting married tomorrow! 💍🥂 Wishing her and her future husband a wonderful wedding day filled with love, laughter and happiness.

It’s lovely to see Blooms Café growing into such a welcoming space for our community.

On behalf of everyone at Asda Dundee West we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Race Night in aid of Tickled Pink! 💗

We are absolutely delighted to announce that an amazing £1,127 was raised.

What a fantastic night we had. There was plenty of dancing, singing and karaoke, not to mention some very competitive family feuds over Pitch & Bottle.

The battle was also on for the best raffle prize, while our fantastic bingo prizes went down a treat. And the tombola certainly didn’t last long, with everyone queuing up to get their tickets!

We even had a surprise birthday celebration, with a very surprised birthday boy being presented with a cake to celebrate his special birthday.

It was brilliant to see so many people coming together, having fun and supporting such a fantastic cause.

Thank you to everyone who donated, took part, helped organise the event and made the night such a huge success.

It was great to welcome Heather Anderson MSP for Dundee City West to Asda Dundee West where she held a pop-up surgery giving constituents the opportunity to come along, ask questions and discuss any queries or issues they may have. Our GSM Graham, along with myself, also took the opportunity to speak with Heather about ongoing store issues and wider concerns affecting our local community. It was a really positive and constructive discussion, and it’s great to have the opportunity to engage directly with our local MSP on matters that are important to both our colleagues and customers.

Thank you to Heather for taking the time to visit the store and speak with the community. 👏

Have you ever wondered what Pudsey does when it's not November?

The Community Champions from across Scotland were excited to find out as we headed along to BBC Scotland.

We had a fun filled, engaging, and inspiring day, gaining an insight into the impact our fundraising makes locally.

A local group 'Reeltime' funded by BBC Children in Need came along and gave us a taste of what the funding is used for and how it helps children.

We heard many inspiring stories from across Scotland, however, without our customers supporting this cause it would not be possible. So a huge thank you to you all.

We also heard plans for the 2026 Appeal.....watch this space.

Vicky, a Community Learning and Development worker, collected some breakfast items for her Friday Men's group at the Hilltown Community Centre.

The group supports around 12 men who experience social isolation and loneliness, with many members facing mental health, physical health , well-being, or recovery-related challenges. The weekly sessions provide food, social connection and activities that help improve confidence, wellbeing, and community engagement.
