Just a short drive from Old Churches Guest House is the historic battlefield of Sheriffmuir. Back in 1715, during the Jacobite uprising, this was where two armies clashed over Scotland's fate. It's now a preserved site of historical significance.
Led by the Earl of Mar, around 12,000 Jacobites faced off against Duke of Argyll's smaller but strategically placed forces. The battle happened on November 13th 1715 and ended with both sides claiming victory, though neither really won.
Sheriffmuir, nestled in the Ochil Hills, offers not just history but also a peaceful spot to enjoy nature. It's a place where you can feel the stories of the past in the quiet heathlands.
