Robert Burns’ favourite howff, Dumfries.
(370)

Nestling along a cobbled flagstone close, just off Dumfries’ High Street, The Globe Inn, first established in 1610 and Robert Burns’ favourite Howff, combines rich and passionate history with a stunning and sympathetically refurbished restaurant, bar, private dining room and museum. The Globe offers a fusion of modern culinary techniques and traditional Scottish ingredients that delivers high qual

ity lunch and dinner menus at fantastic value for money. Reserve a table in the atmospheric ‘1610 Restaurant’ our main dining room (once the old stables), or choose our stunning Private Dining Room set within the panelled eves of the original hay loft. Whether you want to enjoy a intimate table for two or need a venue for your next business or family function, you can enjoy food of impeccable quality prepared by our Michelin-experienced chefs and enjoyable hospitable service from the front of house team. The Globe still retains its roots as an inn and you are welcome to simply enjoy a drink at the bar or in the Snug, where you can select a dram from amongst the largest selection of whisky in the region and even try a snifter of Annandale Distillery’s rare, award winning Man O’ Sword and Man O' Words peated & unpeated Single Malts. We also have an interesting selection of unusual cocktails and an extensive list of sensibly-priced quality wines, or be taken on a journey through the history of Gin and Rum. You can discover the history of Burns and his relationship with The Globe by booking on to one of the tours hosted by Burns’ Howff Club or Burns aficionado Jane Brown who tell passionate tales that will make you laugh and ponder on the stories the walls could tell. You can sit in the famous Poets Chair, if you can recite a verse of the Bard’s poetry, visit his bed chamber, kitchen and dining room, read the diamond etched verses scribed on the windowpane by his very own hand, and marvel at the various rare artefacts proudly displayed.

Following on from our introduction to the cheese, here’s the finished plate as it arrives at the table.
A carefully curated selection, thoughtfully paired and beautifully presented.

Watch until the end for a little quality control from Head Chef, Fraser and Head Pastry Chef, T (Thilina). Their tasting notes are concise, but highly informative: “Mmm.” … “Cheers.”

Our chef-to-camera series continues with a closer look at the cheeses currently featured on the 1610 cheese plate.
A selection curated around flavour, provenance and character, including personal favourites of Head Chef Watch as he talks through what makes each one special, from the aromatic curls of Tête de Moine to the distinctive profile of Langres.

The next reel will show how the cheese plate comes together and is presented.

Thank you for your kind words. It is a privilege to continue to play our part in the history of Dumfries.

Many thanks to The Globe Inn who once again supplied the Stirrup Cup to riders as they made their way onto the High Street on Saturday morning.
This is a tradition that goes back a long way and the Cornets Club are very grateful for their support year on year.
The recipe is a closely guarded secret 🔐

Meet Helen, our Head Gardener.
A graduate of the renowned Threave Garden and School of Heritage Gardening in Dumfries & Galloway. Helen worked at Threave for four years as the Walled Gardener.

Helen brings a wealth of knowledge, skill and quiet dedication to our kitchen garden. Throughout the year, she will carefully tend the produce that supplies our restaurant, nurturing everything from young seedlings in the polytunnel to the seasonal ingredients that appear on our menus.
For us, exceptional dining begins with exceptional ingredients and Helen's work is an important part of that story. Her understanding of the seasons, the soil and the craft of growing allows us to serve produce at its very best.
