A wee reminder from Spectrum Coffee
Many of our team are in their first job, building confidence, learning new skills and finding their place in the world.
Something that might seem like a harmless question to one person can feel very different to the person on the receiving end.
Today, one of our young team members went home upset after being questioned about the way they speak. We really hope no harm was intended, but it’s a good reminder that comments about someone’s appearance, accent, voice, mannerisms or differences can sometimes make people feel singled out.
At Spectrum, we’re proud that every member of our team is unique. Different voices, different personalities, different backgrounds and different ways of communicating are all part of what makes our community special.
We will not tolerate any kind of behaviour that makes our staff feel uncomfortable, you will be asked to leave. I’ve reinforced this with all staff tonight. We will call out any kind of behaviours that are rude, degrading, mocking, bullying, sexist, discriminatory, preconceived, chauvinistic or racist simply because we can. It does not belong in 2026. Or ever for that matter.
Spectrum coffee is a safe space.
