🚧 A70 ROAD CLOSURE – IMPORTANT UPDATE 🚧
There has understandably been a lot of confusion about the planned A70 closure through Douglas. We have now received further details from South Lanarkshire Council about how the work will be carried out.
The closure will begin on Saturday 10th October and will take place in two separate phases—not across the entire area at the same time.
1️⃣ Phase 1 – from 10th October for up to five days
Between Colonel’s Entry and Nursery Avenue.
Access to Crossburn Service Station and Crossburn Kitchen will not be affected during this phase. Colonel’s Entry will remain open for local access throughout the works, although it cannot be used by HGVs.
2️⃣ Phase 2 – from 15th October for up to four days
Between Main Street and Station Road/Douglas West.
The A70 will be closed along the frontage of the Service Station. However, the work will be divided into two sections to ensure that one of our access points remains open at all times. Traffic marshals will also be present to assist with vehicle movements.
✅ Crossburn Service Station and Crossburn Kitchen will remain OPEN throughout the works during our normal trading hours.
General “Businesses Open as Usual” signage will also be placed on both approaches to the closure to support local businesses throughout the works.
The signed diversion will be via the A70, B743, A71, B7078 and A70, so please allow additional time for your journey.
We would also ask HGV drivers to follow the signed diversion and not attempt to use the forecourt for turning, particularly due to the limited height of our canopy.
We will share any further updates as soon as they are provided.
