💷 Business Rate Crisis Showing No Sign Of Easing 💷
Small local businesses are the absolute heartbeat of Spondon, but right now, a lot of them are being pushed straight to the brink by soaring Business Rates.
With some of our independent shops and pubs facing massive bills of £4,000 to £6,000 a year, the lack of support out there is deeply concerning. This huge pressure has been made so much worse by the government removing key transitional reliefs, leaving small businesses to absorb massive increases completely on their own.
Over the last few weeks and months, I’ve been working closely with our local traders to secure every last bit of help possible, helping a number of businesses successfully tap into some of Derby City Council’s historical relief schemes that businesses unclaimed. But the harsh reality is that local council options are now completely exhausted. There is simply nothing left in the local toolkit to give them any more breathing room.
That is why I have officially contacted the office of Jonathan Davies MP for Mid Derbyshire, requesting an urgent meeting with Spondon business owners.
We have done everything we can at a local level. To save our high street, it now takes urgent, direct intervention from the very top level of government. I’ll keep pushing until our local traders get the answer and the proper backing they clearly need.
