Birds Bakery Fresh as a daisy since 1919. Locally sourced. Locally made. Loved by you. Birds was founded by three brothers; Frank, Thomas and Reginald Bird in 1919.

A family-owned bakery founded by 3 brothers in the heart of the East Midlands crafting fresh, handmade treats every single day. The company was later passed on to their sons, the last of the founder members passing away in 1951. Paul Bird, the second generation pioneer, expanded the company considerably while maintaining the quality of our products. Lesley Bird now sits at the helm of the business

, maintaining its family-owned, Derbsyhire-based motto. Birds Bakery now has 63 stores and continues to grow, offering our customers the best sweet treats and savoury snacks both in-store and online through our Birds by Post delivery service.

This week we're shining a light on Catherine ✨

Before joining us, she worked as a teaching assistant and then took time out to raise her children. When the chance came to join our bakery as an apprentice in 2022, she grabbed it - even though she worried about starting a new career later in life.

Four years on, she’s completed her apprenticeship, became a full‑time member of the team, and hasn’t stopped learning since. She loves mastering new techniques and says that constant growth is her favourite part of the job.

Her favourite thing to bake: Danishes
Her favourite Birds treat: Caramel doughnut, with the Elephant’s Foot (the first thing she ever tried from us!) coming in second

We’re so proud of her journey and everything she brings to the bakery 💚

Thank you to everyone who came down to visit our brand new store on Lansdowne Drive and gave us such a warm welcome. From a 7:30am queue to a steady buzz all day long, the energy didn’t drop for a second.

A huge shoutout to our amazing team for staying calm, collected, and keeping everything running smoothly from open to close 💚
