The story behind The Storybook Play Cafe 💫🧚‍♀️

I will forever be grateful for my family, friends and all of the amazing customers that have supported me in this journey 💖

Leaving a financially stable career to start my own business was (and probably always will be) the riskiest thing I have ever done.. and that's saying something when for nearly 8 years I spent every day putting myself in risky situations in the police 😅

And although I am taking home a LOT less (trust me, small business owners are not rolling in it in this economy 🤣), I am happier, less stressed, and actually enjoy the life that I am building.

Owning and running The Storybook Play Cafe is a constant job. I am wearing so many different hats that I didn't realise even existed before opening my own small business, but with the people I have met along the way and the support that you have all shown, I wouldn't change it for the world! 🌏

The Storybook Play Cafe has become a place for everyone to make genuine friendships and connections. To battle the storm of motherhood, parenthood and life in general with others in the same position. It has become everything I could have ever wished for and everything I needed when my daughter was still little (and honestly, still do need!)

I am so proud of myself, my team and The Storybook Play Cafe for everything it has brought to our local community 🫶🏼

🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE 🚨

From June 30th, we will be operating our summer opening hours.

These hours are different from our current 7 days a week, 3 sessions a day schedule, so please do take note!

With summer coming up and the inevitable heat and sunshine that will bring with it, the Storybook is likely to be quieter and so, being open 7 days a week isn't the right move for us as a business in the summer months ☀️

From 30th June until the end of August, our opening hours will be as follows:

⏰️ Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday - open as usual. 9.30-4.30, play sessions: 9.30 / 12 / 2.30

⏰️ Tuesday & Thursday - Open 9.30-2, play sessions 9:30 / 12

⏰️ Wednesday - CLOSED

We will be back to our normal 7 days a week with 3 play sessions a day schedule from September onwards!

If you are hoping to get a Wednesday play session in, please do so over the next couple of weeks before we close on Wednesdays for the summer.

And as always, feel free to pop in and grab a drink, milkshake, frappes, bake, toastie or panini on your travels. Every small order helps us out massively, especially as we are coming into summer.

We have added another session for our Mickey & Minnie Mouse Meet and Greet!

As our first event sold out so quickly (amazing), we have added a second event to meet Mickey & Minnie Mouse! 🙌🏻

Come and join us for a fun and special afternoon where your little ones can meet the world's coolest mice, dance, play party games, make a wish and snap some photos 📸

Afterwards, your little ones can enjoy one hour in the play cafe to play to their hearts delight!

What a week 🙌🏻🌟

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us this week! Whether that was for a play session, popping in for a coffee and a cake or supporting us by grabbing a quick takeaway; this week has been one of our best in a while!

It has been so lovely to see so many new faces here too, as well as our regulars, and to receive such lovely feedback from you all ✨️

And of course, our week only got better when we found out we were finalists in the awards in the category for Best Kids Activity 🥳

Our play passes and memberships have gone down fabulously too!

So thank you once again for supporting local 💓

Open as usual next week where we will be welcoming Mickey & Minnie Mouse to the cafe too (sold out event 😯)

Thank you to every single person who nominated us in the awards! Because of your nominations, we have made it to the finals! 🙌🏻

Having only been open for 4 months, this is the most extraordinary and unbelievable achievement for us, especially so early on in our little business 🥹

We are genuinely beyond grateful for all of your support. The team work so hard to make your experiences at the play cafe fun and stress-free, and being a finalist in the best kids activity category is as much a recognition for each of our team members as it is for us as a small business 💚

Oh Boy! Look who's coming to visit us next week! 🐭

Mickey & Minnie will be heading to the cafe next Sunday 🎉

Join them for a fun event filled with mini party games, bubbles, wishes, and photo opportunities ✨️

Once Mickey & Minnie have headed back to Disney World, the little ones will be able to enjoy an hour of free play in the play cafe.

This event is currently available for our members to purchase. General sale tickets will be available to purchase from 10am on Friday morning.

Very limited space for this one as we are keeping our capacity numbers low to ensure fun for all!

Don't underestimate the power you hold in supporting your local communities.

One customer. One play session. One coffee.

If we all thought of ourselves as just one person who could help, rather than one person that won't make a difference, our local businesses would be THRIVING.

It has never been harder to be a small business owner than it is in this current economy! If it's not the sunshine stealing your customers (thank God for rain this week 🤣), it's the tax man stealing all your profit.

I've said it before and I will say it again.. support your local businesses, not the CEO'S of chains who simply don't care about you.

We had a lovely lady come in today who ordered a takeaway coffee and a tasty treat. This lovely lady told us that we need to let all of Daventry know that we are open for takeaway coffees, cakes, bakes, toasties and paninis, because she genuinely didn't know until someone else recommended us to her.

So, Daventry, that's what we are doing!

We are here 7 days a week, armed with delicious coffees, teas, iced drinks, frappes, milkshakes and coolers 🧋

And better yet? We are cheaper than the *big* chains in our town. You'll be supporting an independent business rather than the pockets of the big CEO'S who don't know you from Jill down the road.

Us? We remember. Every face, every loyal customer that returns, we genuinely recognise you and appreciate your custom.

So the next time you are wandering around the town, shopping, getting your hair cut or simply dilly dallying around, why not pop in and treat yourself to a drink, bake, toastie or panini that has been made with genuine care?

You are welcome to use our outside tables and chairs if you wish, our indoor tables and chairs if we have the room, or of course you can simply take away.
