In this episode of Pimms and Needles, we’re joined by Annmarie Jones to talk about her experience as an Independent Visitor with Changing Futures North East

But what exactly is an Independent Visitor, and what does the role involve?

Independent Visitors are volunteers who build a long-term, meaningful relationship with a child or young person living in care. They provide a consistent, trusted adult presence, someone who is there to listen, have fun, try new things and simply spend time together.

Changing Futures North East works alongside local councils to support children and young people in care, with young people referred to the service through the council.

PLEASE NOTE-The minimum age for participants at Side Burner workshops is 16 years old. Small groups to ensure that you get the full benefit of the tutors expertise.

At the beginning of each workshop you will choose from a chopping board, egg board or natural piece of wood. You will create your own masterpiece ready to take away at the end of the session.

⭐Completed it mate!!⭐
Ok so we will admit that not every session is going to hit the spot for every member and sometimes we are limited on time, especially when we're being social and drinking bottomless brews. However, even if those crafts don't get finished at group, it's great to see the shared results once they are.
We have facebook groups for every location and encourage all our members to drop images of their finished crafts here. Sharing the wins, enjoying the outcomes and admitting that maybe, at first, the workshop wasn't for them, as easy as they thought it would be or perhaps it was the opposite and they now have a new found passion for something?
Here are two examples from our Japanese Kinusaiga workshop, using scrap materials and a foam block to create these no sew artworks.
Both ladies finished them at home and as you can see, once framed they can look so chic! A great gift option or added wall artwork.

Materials are provided for a basic wreath include Fur/pine, moss and hoop plus wire, ribbon and decorative accents but we encourage you to bring some foraged extras such as Holly, Ivy, Eucalyptus, seed pods or dried flowers, feather etc to go big and bulk up the basic kits.

Last Call
Our FREE men's group meet again this week at Blackwell meadows on Wed 30th
7-9pm and we have Faye from joining us to run a pinch pot clay workshop where you'll get to make a cow or sheep (or go rogue?) with materials provided and guidance should you need it.
Funded by Point North and becoming a popular monthly staple for men over 40+ in the area to connect, create and try something new. We've painted highland cows, made chocolates and done some archery to name but a few and we've got lots coming up this year to enjoy.
