RESTAURANT UPDATE
It’s been some time since our last post regarding our reopening date being delayed due to Jimmy having sciatica.
Unfortunately Jimmy ended up in hospital for 5 weeks, eventually diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. While he is much improved after starting steroid treatment, the length of his recuperation is unknown due to nerve damage.
We hope to reopen later in the year, as we want to celebrate Ostlers Close40th Anniversary at the end of October, though at the moment, it’s not possible to make any firm dates.
We both look forward to returning to normality and catching up with all our customers. 👨🏻‍🍳🍄🍷

OSTLERS CLOSE RESTAURANT REOPENING
As many of you are aware, we had chosen not to reopen from the 26th April as the combination of reduced numbers, early closing and no alcohol sales is too restrictive. Due to a Scottish holiday, that we had booked last year not realising that we would be closed all of this year, we had intended reopening for Friday and Saturday evenings from the first weekend in June, however we have had a set back as Jimmy is suffering from severe sciatica and can barely walk at the moment, so there’s no point in taking reservations until we know he’s fit enough to be able to work. We were raring to go and extremely disappointed, so rest assured, as soon as Jimmy is improving ,we will notify you our proposed opening date.
To illustrate how bad it is, he’s not touched a glass of red wine in 6 weeks.
Looking forward to seeing all our customers as soon as we can 🤞🍷

Jimmy just picked me some flowers from the garden, that I arranged in my Granny’s vase. As I arranged them it reminded me of flower arranging for the restaurant. The garden is full of spring bulbs and looking more colourful than usual as not picking the flowers for the restaurant.
Let’s hope it won’t be too long before we can get back to some sense of normality.
Happy Mother’s Day tomorrow! 🌸🌻🌺

Delighted to open for Christmas Eve lunch for all our regulars who dine with us on Christmas Eve each year. Only sorry that it isn’t possible for Hogmanay as well.
We want to wish everyone a Happy Christmas however they celebrate. We hope that eventually in 2020, the situation will improve and we can welcome our customers back to dine at Ostlers Close, we have certainly missed the restaurant, even after nearly 40 years ! 🎄🍾🥂

Well it was a short lived opening as Fife headed into Level 3 within the week of reopening, since this means closing at 6pm, and we open only in the evenings, we had to close again. Unsurprising, it was announced this afternoon that Fife remains in Level 3.
We will spring into action to reopen on Friday and Saturday Evenings, taking reservations from 4.45pm to allow for the 8pm closing, as soon as Level 2 for Fife is announced. We are pencilling tentative reservations in the diary just in case.
Let’s hope it’s better news next week, appreciating that a reduction in COVID numbers and everybody’s good health is the priority, tough though it maybe. Hopefully 2021 will bring better times.🍷

Last Saturday was the 39th Anniversary of Ostlers Close. 🥂 Great to be back open last night ,resuming our restricted hours of Friday and Saturday evenings only. To accommodate the Level 2 regulations of being closed by 8pm, we are taking reservations from 5pm to ensure that diners can relax and enjoy their evening. Thank goodness for dark nights!
We will continue with this measure while Fife is within Level 2 and just continue to be flexible and make the best of the current situation.
Ending on a brighter note, due to the mild weather we still managed to pick all the flowers from the garden for the restaurant 🌸🌻

Happy to be open and welcoming our customers back to Ostlers Close. We may only be open on Friday and Saturday evenings but there’s still plenty to keep us busy.
We always enjoy the day out foraging for mushrooms🍄, yesterday we covered a lot of ground to pick 8 different varieties of fungi - a bit more laborious was the 5 hours it took to clean and grade them. Less perfect cep are sliced and dried.
Lockdown allowed us more time in the garden, so in addition to our normal crops, Jimmy grew tomatoes and potatoes, and we are delighted with the results. We are drying the excess crop of tomatoes, preserving in olive oil, garlic and thyme-and they give a real burst of flavour to a sauce.
The crop of Victoria and mirabelle plums, damsons and brambles are also keeping us busy at the moment . So many Victoria plums that decided to make plum brandy to add to my normal fruit liqueurs. We shall look forward to the end results🥃. Don’t know how we managed before, or is that an age thing!😂

It was a stressful last week to organise reopening, but last night made it all worth while. Lovely to see our regulars customers return and appreciate all our hard work. Though we have to become accustomed to late nights again!
Perhaps opening on Friday and Saturday evenings only is a good idea! 🥂👨🏻‍🍳

The garden and poly tunnel are full of lovely vegetables , herbs, fruit and flowers , mushrooms are ready to be picked,🍄,so we are delighted to announce that we are reopening from Friday 31st July, on Friday and Saturday evenings (for the moment).
We have implemented many new procedures, following all government guidance to ensure that we offer the highest standards of hygiene; this is life now, so we have to be positive and make the best of it. We are looking forward to doing what we know best, after running the restaurant for 39 years, though I have to say that we have enjoyed relaxing Saturday evenings!
