Tomorrow I’ll experience a tiny fraction of what thousands of rabbits endure every day.

Restricted space.
No proper exercise.
No enrichment.
Nowhere to run, dig, explore or escape.

People often say their rabbit is “only shut in the hutch overnight” but dawn and dusk are when rabbits naturally become most active. Others are rarely let out at all.

I’ll be uncomfortable for eight hours.

Some rabbits spend their entire lives like this.

The difference is, at 5pm, I get to leave.

I’ll be livestreaming the entire challenge on TikTok, (jacksonsanimalrescue) so you can follow along, ask questions, and learn about rabbit welfare.

I’m doing this to raise money for our new rabbit unit and to start an uncomfortable but necessary conversation about the way rabbits are housed.

Eight hours for me. A lifetime for them.

Harry and Jean are looking for a home of their very own to enjoy their golden years to the full! They need a quiet place to live, preferably with no young children, although not essential, so long as the adults are responsible and well aware these darlings are not for children! They are well used to dogs. They have not been agressive once. They have not had any health concerns whatsoever in their 2/3 years here at the rescue with me. They do not and will not want to be handled. They are not cuddly bunnies. What they are though, are the most beautiful, kind souls, who went through more than anybun should ever have to endure in their earlier years, and have now spent 2 years in rescue for Jean, 3 years for Harry. Be patient, calm, quiet and kind, and in time, like I have seen for myself, they will learn to trust u, and interact with u in their own special ways. You do not get much more rewarding than that. They truly deserve a warm cozy home of their own. I wish wish all my heart 2026 finds this for them. Please share, in the hope that together, we can find Harry and Jean theor hoppy ever after 💜🩵

This image speaks a thousands words. A rabbit who belonged to a child, a rabbit who was neglected, a rabbit who sat on our vets table, tired and fighting a sickness that he would never recover from. Enzo is one of millions of rabbits that suffer this same fate.

This time of year, many rabbits will be gifted as Easter presents across the world. A novelty item, easily obtainable, easily neglected.
We have become so desensitised to the fact small animals are living, breathing beings and we selfishly ignore their needs and put our own above all else. So parents, I really want you to know that you can and absolutely should say no to your kids. ‘No, you cannot have a rabbit’ it’s honestly that simple.

We are a nation of self proclaimed animal lovers, so it’s about time we start acting like it.

Rabbits are for life, not just for Easter. Think about it.
