It’s a Culm Valley Model Railway Club Sunday today | Our talented model making friends open their studio hut on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of each month - welcoming visitors here within the grounds of the The Old Well Garden Centre.

Today they are running "In Era" for Tiverton Junction with locomotives and rolling stock modelled from the early 1960s. A layout with many fond memories of times gone by.

Each open day has plenty to see & enjoy. A charming & free family friendly activity for train fanatics of all ages 🚂

Not forgetting the popular interactive layout for little ones, aptly renamed “Soldor” for copyright reasons yet featuring a familiar faced little blue engine and friends!

Join us today 10am til 4pm. The Culm Valley Model Railway Club members & our Garden Centre team look forward to seeing you.

Authentic Community Connections | Last Saturday morning we were delighted to welcome Devon gardener, grower, vintage enthusiast & lovely loyal Old Well customer Delia to meet with us here at the Garden Centre.

Vertical planting is a dream with the PlantBox system. Made from 100% recycled materials in a choice of stackable sizes.
A set of 3 priced at just £79.00 is a great starter kit when it comes to creating your own indoor or outdoor Living Wall.
Once planted up, simply stack your PlantBoxes & fix the back to a suitable wall or frame.
In this video Michelle demonstrates just how easy the 3 box kit is to put together, & how versatile they can be to display.
For house plants we’ve experimented with the carnivorous pitcher plant Nepenthes in the top trough, as it likes the soil to be consistently damp with mineral free rainwater.
Remember not to use any chemical fertilizers with Nepenthes as they catch their own bugs! But if you want to make it interesting, drop a single dead insect into a pitcher once a month!
In the lower troughs we’ve planted Epipremnum Aureum ‘Marble Queen’ loved for its trailing creamy/white & green variegated leaves.
When watering your Living Wall remember is gravity fed, meaning the top trough will retain its water with any excess cascading into the troughs below.
In the example shown we wanted the top trough to remain full with only enough excess in the troughs below to make the soil wet, for we know the Epipremnum needs to be dry in between watering.
Each PlantBox kit comes with everything you need to set up your Living Wall - simply choose your compost/potting mix & plants and have fun with it!
For house plants we like to use .horticulture potting mix, as a superb quality all rounder.
For outdoor plants, the organic range is right up there when it comes to getting your Living Wall planting off to a fine start.

Astronomically Autumn | Equinox marks the time when day & night are equal in length. Summer light will slowly fade. Our days becoming shorter & cooler.

The gentle transition to all things cozy inside. Late-flowering blooms aglow outside, with new season bedding, shrubs, grasses, fruit trees, evergreens, berries, ferns & foliage remind us of the beauty October can bring.
