Ryan's Cookie Box

Ryan's Cookie Box Taking Over The World One Cookie At A Time Welcome to Ryan's Cookie Box! It is managed by a young man called Ryan, who just happens to have Down Syndrome. Enjoy! X
(235)

It does exactly what it says on the tin - a Not For Profit Charity Honesty box at the top of our driveway, selling home made cookies and bakes. He is ably supported by the Cookie Box Team - his assistant Baker, his assistant Baker's Husband, Smelly Big Brother David, Big Sister Gym Bunny Nicki, Big Sister Writer in Residence Laura and Elder Statesman Grampa. We bake most days according to work and

family commitments, and make whatever takes our fancy, although we do have a few staples - Chocolate Chip Cookies, Brownies and Chocolate Goop, Lemon Drizzle and White Goop, Endorphin Bars, Gluten Free Carrot Cake....
When a fresh batch is baked and labelled, we put up a post on FB to let you know what we have, and then put up a few packets at a time in the Cookie Box until they are all sold. The way it works is that we ask you to cover the cost of ingredients and packaging, and then add a donation - and when you open the door of The Cookie Box you will find a sheet that explains it all. But by way of a quick explanation, we have a colour coded system - if you look at the label on the packet, there will be a green, yellow or red dot. Bakes with green dots cost £1.10 to make so you cover that AND THEN ADD A DONATION. Bakes with yellow dots cost £1.30 to make so you cover that AND THEN ADD A DONATION. Bakes with red dots cost £1.50 to make so you cover that AND THEN ADD A DONATION. And to give you a wee steer, on average, each packet takes 15 minutes to make. All the donations go to the Charity of The Month - and the name of the charity will be on the packet. And to date, over the 5 (almost 6) years that Ryan has been running his Cookie Box, he has raised over £50,000 for charity. The Cookie Box itself is a little on the quirky side, and we revamp it every few weeks, so it always has some daft old theme - which gives us a bit of fun. And last year we put together a flat pack beehive, called 'Ryan's Jam Jar Open Here', and it stocks home made jellies and chutneys - mostly made from the apples which we are so kindly donated from far and near. The page records all the details of where your hard earned cash goes. It is also full of Tosh and Twaddle - so if you have nothing better to do, or are having a lengthy session on the throne, you can read about The Big House, Hedgehogs, Jummy C the Squirrel, Squealer the Cat and the assistant baker's wandering ruminations. Don't say we didn't warn you! And thank you for dropping by - virtually or otherwise. Oh - and you might like to know where we are, and how to get here:

Our address is 100A Drumnaconagher Rd, Crossgar, Downpatrick, BT30 9JJ

And your best and easiest way to come is from Ballynahinch, so-

Coming in to Ballynahinch from the Belfast side, take the B7 road to Crossgar. Drive along there for about one and a half miles - you will pass St Colman's School on your left, and you will go over a tight little bend at a bridge. If you keep going, the road goes into a long, left handed, uphill bend, and the Drumnaconagher Rd is on that bend on the right hand side. We are half a mile down on the right - the sign is on the roadside, and the Cookie Box just through the gate. Look forward to seeing you!

Baking for the Crazy Like a Fool Daddy Cool Father's Day Mini Hampers began in earnest today - always start with the more traditional bakes - Germans(prep), Sticky Jimmy's(NGCI this time), and Galette Bretonnes (a poncy name for butter biscuits).

Tomorrow is more heavyweight - Classic Endorphins, Brownies and Bloopwaffle Blondies.

We have a very few mini hampers left to order ....private message if you are interested.

Last Saturday was the most lovely of days.

The Down Triathlon Club held their 'Beyond The Wall' 2026 Triathlon down at Castleward, with 400 adult competitors taking part, starting with a 750m swim in Strangford Lough, and then gradually air drying with a 20km cycle around the Downpatrick and Strangford areas, and finishing the final drying cycle with a run through the Castle Ward Estate Trails.

Also featuring on the day was the very first Youth Aquathlon for 11to17 year olds, along with a FunTri category for the 9-10 year olds. And these guys - 80 in all - tackled an open water swim in Strangford Bay, followed by a run through the Castle Ward Trails.

I don't think I have ever been to such a welcoming and community spirited event, and it really was a most special day.
Ryan had been asked to provide VIP nibbles for the vips - sponsors, volunteers, and anybody happy to pop a donation in the Big Green Jam Making Bucket for some buns- and the final donation count came to a remarkably generous £300 to be set aside for this month's charity - Sands - baby loss charity.

Of course it would be rude not the sample the other wares, so Ryan dutifully had a sausage bap for elevenses from the Simply Irresistible Food Truck (lived up to its name), followed by a Brennan's Ice Cream.

It's a tough life.

And just wrapping up with a note about the Crazy Like a Fool Daddy Cool Father's Day Mini Hampers.....we have capacity for 7 more, and then that will be it.
So if you are interested, ordering is by private message, price is £18, and collection is down at The Big House on Saturday 20th June, between 3pm and 6pm.

Thank you!

Ta Ta for now.

And so the prep work starts for the
'Crazy Like a Fool Daddy Cool Father's Day Mini Hampers'.

Browning some homemade butter this morning.....possibly for Bloopwaffle Blondies....and the whole kitchen smells like nuts.

We're taking orders via private mesage - Facebook or Instagram - and the mini hampers are £18, for collection on Saturday 20th June between 3pm and 6pm, with all profits to Sands - baby loss charity.

We're closed today after a wonderful trip out yesterday...photos to follow later.

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

A quick interim post to say that after a really, REALLY great morning at the 2026 Beyond The Wall Triathlon Event this morning, we have boxed up the last of the nibbles and popped them in The Cookie Box - just if you are passing.

All donations to Sands - baby loss charity.

A quick reminder that Ryan's Cookie Box will be closed this weekend because we are going to be down at Castleward at the 2026 Beyond The Wall Triathlon Event, along with the Youth Aquathlon.

We are very touched to have been asked to supply the nibbles which will accompany the excellent coffee for the VIPS - and the Big Green Jam Bucket will be sitting out for voluntary donations for this month's charity, Sands - baby loss charity.

So Big Sister Laura of the Immaculate Packing Skills has packed up the car with a Back Seat Overflow, and we've gone for a more old school collection this time - easy (but not too easy) on the chocolate, because we reckon that it could get pretty warm down there, and there could be a melted moment problem of the wrong kind.

We do have Melted Moments of the right kind - along with Flakemeals, Germans, Chocolate Chip Pucks with Chocolate Bums, Bloopwaffle Blondies, NGCI Brownie Bites, Ryans (3X5) Squared, Mini Chocolate Chip Tarts with Goop, Bakewell, and finally, Sticky Jimmy's.

We had never heard about Sticky Jimmys until we came across them on the Pappy's Bakery Instagram page (a great page, local, from a bakery in Dunloy, and a most engaging lassie who could talk for Ireland - thoroughly recommend).
We did make one tweak though, and added an apostrophe, so when you are munching them, the wonderment of why Jimmy is sticky and what caused the stickiness will be at the forefront of your mind.
You're welcome.

So there we all are.
Good luck to all the competitors today!

And if you are looking for something different to do, especially with the family, the Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend is on, and our friends at Stonebridge Farm are taking part - a huge amount of effort has gone into it, and it will be well worth a visit.

May Profits, Father's Day Mini Hampers, and Feeding the Vips.

A few wee things to share this evening.

Our May/early June profits for Marie Curie - Northern Ireland have come in at a remarkable £1085 - and that went whizzing over the ether earlier this afternoon, after we brought the swag down to the Downpatrick Danske Bank, with the famous comfy chairs, and the Greggs round the corner.

Thank you all so much - it has been a corker of a month, and we really appreciate you all dropping by.

On the Father's Day Front, we are taking orders for our 'Crazy Like a Fool Daddy Cool Father's Day Mini Hampers'.
The usual quirky wee collection of nibbles with a Daddy Cool theme - price £18, collection down at the Big House on Saturday 20th June between 3pm and 6pm, and orders taken by private message on Facebook or Instagram.

The other truly lovely thing is that Ryan has been asked by The Down Triathlon Club to supply nibbles for the Sponsors & Volunteers Hospitality area (hereafter referred to as the VIPS) at the Beyond the Wall Triathlon / Youth Aquathlon 2026 at Castle Ward, Strangford.
This event is a really big deal, and the amount of organising, all by volunteers, is quite extraordinary, and we really are honoured to be asked.
So we'll be rocking up with the buns and the big green jam making bucket, the former for eating, the latter to collect donations - and it really does sound like quite the event.

Huge thank you to Michael Morrissey, Evelyn Mooney, and Claire Morrissey who came over at the weekend with all the details, and a Beyond the Wall jumper for Ryan to wear on the day.

And can we all take a moment to admire the medals - these were the winning designs from Sophia and Yvaine, (with close runner up Robyn) from their medal design competition.
They are fab.
Also fab are Michael's trainers - very cool. Very mindful.

So just finally - because of the triathlon commitment, followed by the Father's Day Mini Hampers, I suspect we will not be open for the next couple of weeks - but will let you know.

And also just to say that our charity for July is Sands - baby loss charity. Very few of us have not been touched in some way by the loss of a wee one, and so this one is particularly special.

So there we are. All up to date....a bit like my ironing pile for a brief 5 minutes at 8:45 this morning.

FATHER'S DAY MINI HAMPERS

Father's Day has kind of snuck up on us, but just to say that we will be doing our Father's Day Mini Hampers again this year.

Briefly (and scroll on down all you regulars, you've heard all this before), four times a year - Valentine's Day, Mothers Day, Father's Day and Christmas, we make themed mini hampers to preorder.

They contain smaller sized portions of some of the most popular bakes, but generally you have to wait and see what's in it when you collect it......mostly because we don't always know ourselves until last minute.

So this year, we are embracing the Daddy Cool Theme, and will be making:

Crazy Like A Fool Daddy Cool Mini Hampers.

Yup.

I think we'll start taking orders from 7pm tomorrow (Monday 8th June).

The price will be £18.00 (that shakes down roughly as: ingredients £8.50, packaging £4, charity donation £5.50).

Orders are by private message on Facebook or Instagram from 7pm tomorrow, Monday 8th June at 7pm - we'll post a wee reminder tomorrow.

Collection is from The Big House on Saturday 20th June 3pm until 6pm - and PLEASE check that this time suits before you order, because we have no wiggle room.

So there we go....and thank you so much for today. Such a busy day!

Finally though, can I just point out the complete paucity of lyrics to be had in Boney M's 'Daddy Cool.'

Hopefully the mini hampers will be better.
