We havenāt put our usual Community Carvery announcement out this week, and thereās a reason why.
We currently have nine people on our waiting list from your nominations. For anyone who doesnāt know how our Community Carvery works, we donāt cook extra food specifically for it. The whole idea started as a way of making sure that if we have carvery food left after carvery service, good food doesnāt go to waste when it could instead go to someone in our community who could really do with a pick me up.
Today, we had enough left to make three Community Carveries, and theyāve just gone out to a very deserving family of three.
Unfortunately, thatās us out of food for today, which means the remaining people on our list will have to wait until next week. Thatās also why we havenāt asked for any more nominations this week. We want to look after the people already waiting before adding more names to the list.
But then something happened today that we really werenāt expecting. As we were heading out with the three dinners, someone stopped us at the bar.
Heād seen what weāve been doing with the Community Carvery and wanted to contribute.
He paid us for todayās three carveries.
And that really got us.
This isnāt someone with loads of money to throw around. Heās a local family man who works bloody hard. I know because we see him coming into the pub after work most days of the week and he is often joined by his Mrs and daughter after their work day. Theyāre a normal, hardworking family.
And he saw another family in our community being helped and decided that he wanted to put his own hand in his pocket and be part of it. So today, three Community Carveries have gone out to a family of three, and because of one manās completely unexpected act of kindness, the money for those dinners can go straight back into helping us work our way through the nine people still waiting. We wonāt name him because thatās not why he did it.
But he knows who he is.
Thank you, mate. Genuinely and the family who recieved it was so happy.
When we started the Community Carvery, it was simply about not wasting good food and using what we had left to do something kind for somebody locally. But itās becoming something more than that. People are nominating neighbours, friends and families. People are looking out for each other. And now weāve had someone who works seven days a week to provide for his own family decide he wants to help another one.
Thatās community.
To the people still on our waiting list, we havenāt forgotten you. We simply donāt have anything left to send out today. As soon as we have food available again, weāll carry on working our way through the list.
And to everyone who has nominated somebody, shared our posts, supported us by having a carvery with us or quietly done something like this gentleman did today...
Thank you.
We took a walk on the way back, who knows where this local landmark is?
