The Durham Ox is an award winning traditional pub complete with flag stone floors, exposed beams, oak panelling and roaring fires in the main bar during the winter. Family owned for the past twenty years and located in the most beautiful hill top village, 30 minutes from historic York. For those wishing for over-night accommodation there are five converted farm buildings that provide a peaceful and charming place to stay and The Studio Suite located above the pub with its own private entrance. All of the bedrooms open onto their own private terrace. There is also a self-catering cottage that sleeps up to six just a two minute walk from the pub. The Durham Ox is the ideal country get away, with easy access to York and up on to the Moors and Coast. Great covered outside space with wood-burning stove as well as other outside areas. Renowned for it's food, some of the classics include: Cheesy scallops, Lobster platters, The Ox Seafood Platter; Steak Frites, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Whole grilled turbot, Chateaubriand for two to share; and of course a great Sunday lunch with Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings....and so much more. No plans on Friday, 16th October (the start of the half term holidays for some) we’ve had a group cancel and all the rooms are now available… if you’ve been looking to get booked in.
Check in from 3pm and head over to The Doghouse for a few drinks before maybe a relaxing bath or soak in one of the spa pools. Then head over to the pub for supper. Choose from Ox classics on the A LA Carte or black board specials and something nice to drink - whatever your preference. Maybe a little Digestif before you head to bed… or back to The Doghouse for one more before heading to bed.
In the morning we’ll send you on your way with a wonderful cooked breakfast, maybe a Buck’s Fizz or Bloody Mary for whoever isn’t driving, and of course plenty of tea and coffee.
Looking for a night away for yourself and partner, friends or family - we have accommodation to suit and different offers depending from one night stays to our 3-night break.

The festive season is fast approaching and it’s definitely time to start planning parties and gatherings if you haven’t done so already.

Only 100 days until Christmas or so we’ve heard!
We may only have one room left for our 2 night Christmas stay and 2 tables left for Christmas Day lunch, but that still leaves plenty of opportunities for celebrating over the Christmas period.
