When Saheda from our Rochdale store heard that one of her older customers had been widowed she promised the customer's daughter that she'd look after her – and now she always supports her with her shopping.

The customer's daughter lives in London, so was worried about how her mum would cope on her own, so Saheda told her which days she works so the customer could time her visits knowing she'll be there. While she's in the store Saheda scans and packs her shopping, gets a chair for the customer, and makes the time to have a nice chat with her. The customer was so impressed that she told the store's customer manager Dave how much Saheda's kindness means to her. Dave said: "The lady told me that ever since she lost her husband three months ago, Saheda has been like a breath of fresh air in her life every time she shops– not just because of the help she offers, but as an emotional support and somebody to chat to."

Saheda said: "I used to see the lady come in with her husband all the time and then didn't see her for a while. Then I saw her shopping with her daughter, and they told me what had happened. I told her to come and see me every time she came in... and she does. We have a good chat and I help her, as she does struggle a bit.

"She thanks me every single time and I go, 'no, you don't need to thank me'. It's sweet, though. I like to think that somebody would do that for my own mum. I always think too that one day I could be in that position. It doesn't cost anything to be pleasant and kind, does it?"

When a blind customer called into our St Helens store looking for some new outfits to wear on holiday, Asda colleague Debbie immediately stepped in to help.

The customer told Debbie the sorts of things she wanted, so she took her to the George department, described various options for her and picked out a selection for the customer to choose from. The customer felt the materials, said which ones she liked the most, and chose five different outfits. Debbie said: "We had a really good chat and I spent quite some time with her making sure she was happy. She was so relieved that someone was looking after her. Helping people is just part of my job. The lady was extremely grateful and that was enough for me. Even her guide dog looked up at me as if to say thank you. I told the lady if she ever needed help in the future to just ask for me personally."

Debbie's been nominated for an Asda service superstar award, with ambient manager Linzi saying: "Debbie always gives great service, but this was going the extra mile. We are all very proud of her. She's very caring, she's like the mum of the store here!"

Today we're celebrating Katie and the amazing journey she's shared with us 💗

As a member of the Asda marketing team, Katie has spent the last 18 years helping share the life-saving messages behind Tickled Pink.

When she found a lump during a routine breast check, those same messages helped her recognise a change and get it checked.

After treatment, Katie returned to work earlier this year and continues to use her experience to support and inspire others by sharing her story.

We're so proud to call Katie part of the Asda family. ✨

A huge thank you to all our generous customers, colleagues and volunteers who've been supporting our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign throughout October.

Colleagues have been putting on their pink T-shirts, wigs and tutus as they tackle fundraising sponsored walks and dips in the chilly sea, dress up in 80s clothes, have fun afternoon teas, have their hair dyed, their heads and beards shaved... and even their legs waxed!

Community champion Michelle, from our Gosforth store, said: "A big thank you to all our customers and colleagues who have supported us. We've had a fun time but also given a serious shout out to check them b***s and pecs. Know your normal. If in doubt get checked out."

Tickled Pink is the partnership between Asda, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! and this year we've been celebrating our 30th anniversary! That’s 30 years of reminding more people to check their b***s, pecs or chests and 30 years of helping more people find breast health information and support when they need it. We've raised more than £100 million over the last 30 years for world-class research, life-changing support and vital breast awareness information.

When home shopping driver Dan's van broke down two hours from the Swansea store and couldn't immediately be fixed he continued his deliveries on foot to make sure his customers still got their shopping.

Dan was delivering to the village of Cribyn near Lampeter when the automatic gears failed and the van couldn't move. Knowing it wouldn't be a quick fix, he decided to do everything he could to get customers' shopping to them. He said: "I was quite close to a customer's home so I got the trolley out and filled it with crates and took it to their house. The next one was on the other side of the village – about a 20-to-30-minute walk – so I again packed up the trolley and started walking. It was quite dark by then and there were no street lights on the final stretch so I had to use the torch on my phone. The customer was really grateful, a little bit dumbstruck that I'd walked with his shopping, but grateful. The area is very rural and there aren't many shops, that's why we deliver here. I wanted the customers to get their deliveries."

Store manager Andre, who's nominated Dan for an Asda service superstar award, said: "When I heard what Dan had done I immediately felt proud of his actions and wanted to ensure he got the recognition he deserved. That night he went out of his way and showed real determination to ensure his customers were not let down, delivering some on foot and waiting with his van for recovery which meant he didn't get back to store until the early hours. Dan's actions that evening shows what a great colleague he is and how is always willing to help his fellow colleagues and customers no matter the circumstances."

25/10/2026

Community champion Sam from our Dundee Kirkton store is a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign and says awareness of self checking helped to save her life.

Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a lump during a regular ‘self-check’ in 2022. Following a lumpectomy, she had 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by 20 sessions of radiotherapy, which came to an end in December 2023 – almost a year after she first found her lump.

She said: "Ever since I started as a community champion in 2014, a role which got me directly involved with the campaign every year, I did the checks like clockwork, once a month in the shower. I thought, ‘You can’t tell other people to check themselves if you’re not doing it yourself.’

She said having her own experience with breast cancer has supported her work with the Tickled Pink campaign, which marks 30 years this month: “With lived knowledge, people know I haven’t just read about this in a book and they tend to listen to what I’m saying. It’s emotional of course, but if I can encourage more people to check themselves regularly, then I’ll take that as a win.”

Sam is now working locally to encourage GP surgeries in Dundee to include information about self-checking as an add-on to regular smear tests, in a campaign she’s calling ‘Swipe and Squeeze’.

For Tickled Pink, we've got some new moves to groove to, and you don't need a dance floor. 🪩🍒

When checking your chest becomes a monthly groove, you begin to Know Your Normal helping spot signs or unusual changes to your chest early. Look, touch, repeat regularly. 🔄🎀

On Tuesday evening I had the absolute pleasure of joining the members of the Cross Glebe Community Association "Happy Hookers" crochet group to present them with the 'Big Cheque.' The group had a successful application for the Asda Better together fund and we are excited to support the project with a donation of £500.

The group started with a few folk getting together to do a little crochet, knitting and have a catch up but over the years it has blossomed into something more. A raffle is held every week where members bring in small prizes and all funds go into the kitty for annual outings and supplies.

This group on the surface helps combat loneliness and isolation within the community, which is something we should all be working to alleviate, but is also so much more. These generous big hearted members of the community are knitting bags for cancer patients to carry their syringe drivers while getting treatments, crocheting blankets for Altnagelvin NICU and local nursing homes. Crafting trauma bears and gowns for Angel babies from donated wedding dresses. All this and more just because they can and want to help.

The donation form the Asda Foundation Better Together fund, will go towards games and supplies for the enjoyment and enrichment of this fabulous, fun and lively group.

Thank you to the "Happy Hookers" for letting me join in.

Rasharkin Warm Hub is a charity with community at its heart. Sharon Robinson runs the group that hosted 35 individuals.

The hub helps reduce isolation and loneliness within the community, this group is a life line for some of the most vulnerable members of our communities. often referred by social workers and the local GP.

After a breakfast/brunch tea/coffee everyone took part in a fireside quiz and arm chair aerobics. During the year different activities are organised crafting events, games days, meals out etc.

I was welcomed with open arms and helped to make the first morning of the new season.

Front end in Asda Coleraine really showed up and showed out to promote Tickled Pink and our 30 year partnership.

Colleagues and customers alike took part in the tombola and lucky dip. The Tickled Pink merch also went down a treat.

As well as raising funds we were raising awareness and in turn got to hear some of the amazing stories of the cancer warriors in our community.

Pudsey Funday is the 7th November and we'll have a few BBC Children in Need fundraising activities taking place as well as our challenge reveal.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending and helping at the Cornfield Veterans Family Fun Day.

Billy from Millburn Community developed popped in on Thursday to pick up a few bits for the day.

The main aim of the day was to showcase the work and activities the veterans do.The project has a variety of resources within the cornfield space;a workshop where they make garden furniture from repurposed wooden barrels as well as other smaller projects like bowls, trickier than you'd think, and candlesticks.Games area with pool table, dart board, board games and books.Agricultural and horticultural areas, chicken coop and run, beehives, polytunnel, raised beds and grow areas. Any donations made from items produced by the veterans is put back into the project.

Veterans have plans to improve the cornfield space such as relocate the beehives and replant and revamp the polytunnel, some of the produce from the project is donated to the wider community.

The weather held up and fun was had by all who attended.

Donna, one of our fabulous colleagues, wears a few hats outside of her role on GM.

As a board member of Millburn Community Development she collected a couple of prizes which were raffled off at the Millburn Community Fun Day.

I attended the Ballysally Women's Group Summer Event last week. The day was full of hustle and bustle, there were pre-loved stalls (white elephant and clothes), crafting stalls, bouncy castles and an indoor racetrack (Leaps and Bounce inflatable hire), face painting, a petting zoo (Kidz Farm) and hot food, teas, coffees and snacks served up by Shirley and all the lovely ladies working behind the scenes to make the day a success.

Also The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins, attended the event and got to see first hand what Ballysally Women's Group do for their wider community.

What a fabulous day it was at the grand re-opening of the Killowen Community Association Garden. The weather played ball – no showers, a light breeze, hot but not too hot, perfect weather to entice the local community out to celebrate the event and join in the festivities.

Benny the Bannsider and Lyndon Kane Officially cut the ribbon on the garden and welcomed the community in.

Rayanne Lennox was in attendance with her family and make-up bag in hand, painting the faces of the many children enjoying the garden, bouncy castle, crafting and horticultural activities.

Lance from North Coast Circus came along with his circus skills, equipment and give it ago attitude to promote the fun and positive physical and mental benefits in the Art of Circus and Wellbeing.

Casey from Tales of the Wild/Casey's Creatures, brought Little Foot the tortoise, Barney the boa constrictor, Millie the giant African millipede and Joe the bearded dragon to meet everyone and share information on the animals themselves conservation and nature.

I had a fab time helping the ladies where I could, joining in the arts and crafts giving the little kids assistance when needed, hopefully everyone had as much fun as I did and lots of interest and funds were raised for the Killowen Community Association and Garden.

Last week was spent prepping for events in our community.

I dropped by with Caroline of the Ballysally Women's Group, who are hosting a community event with a little bit of everything, Pre-loved stalls, traybakes, tea/coffee and hot food on 6th August at the Ballysally Community Centre 2pm-4pm. I brought her some refreshments and treats to help support the event and to find out what the Women's Group have been up to.

These ladies strive to help their local community and are currently working on getting a Community Cupboard up and running. This initiative will help supply essentials to those in need with every day items such as toiletries, larder staples and other basic necessities. I brought a few bags of those little things we take for granted in hopes that it will help those who are struggling due to the cost of living crisis.

Riley, the representative of Causeway Pride, popped into collect some water and sweet treats for those taking part and attending the Causeway Pride event in Portrush.
