Ever wondered why fish is so closely linked with Fridays in Britain?
The tradition has Christian roots. For centuries, many Christians, particularly Catholics, abstained from eating meat on Fridays as a form of penance, while fish was permitted. Over time, Friday became firmly established as the day for a fish supper, and the habit stuck around long after the religious reasons became less prominent.
Which gives us a perfectly good excuse to carry on the tradition with our Mixed Fish Platter at The Anchor. 😏🐟
