A few people have asked me about Sourdough leftovers.
Yeah I know! Some people have leftovers?!
I have two go-to options I use to make sure I don’t waste a crumb.
(Thanks Mum for making me resourceful)
1. Breadcrumbs- A simple blitz in the food processor and pop them in a bag on their own or with some died herbs and they freeze fantastically.
I use them in stuffing but they can also be dried and blitzed again to make them finer to pané fish or chicken, halloumi, etc.
2. I use them for croutons on Caesar salad, or sliced larger as a croûte as a base for a starter.
If by some chance I’ve got any spare beyond this I let the little birds in our garden have some as a treat.
The last thing I want to do is have lots of food waste so the little ones do okay out of me here.
That does involve some patrolling to make sure the nasty birds don’t descend or worse ! 🐀
I hope this is helpful. If you’re taking the time to support a local baker and making the decision to do something for your gut health, why not get the most of out it?
