Well. We did it. 🎉

This week The Old Stables opened every single day for the very first time, and we are delighted to report that nobody fainted, nothing caught fire, and the teapots survived. 😂

The truth is we were a little nervous. Opening seven days is a big step for a small team, and we half expected a quiet day somewhere in the middle so we could all have a sit down. Tuesday had other ideas. So did Wednesday. By Friday, the kitchen had stopped asking "shall I do another batch" and simply started doing another batch. 😅

What has genuinely made our week is you. ❤️ The regulars who came twice. The people who popped in on a day we have never been open before and looked pleasantly surprised to find the lights on. The gentleman who asked if we were open Wednesdays now, then came back on Wednesday to check we were telling the truth. We were. We are. 🫖

There is more coming out of the kitchen too. We have added hot breakfasts items, properly cooked to order, and amazing homemade soups for anyone wanting something more substantial than a scone. Though let it be said, there is no shame whatsoever in a scone for lunch. We have seen it. We have done it.

Hot breakfast now includes bacon and sausage sandwiches.Hot lunch brings homemade soup of the day with crusty bread. All made here, all made fresh, all best enjoyed slowly with a large pot of tea and no particular plans for the afternoon. ☕

Something new at The Old Stables 🍂

There is a proper chill in the air now, and the tea room has changed with it. We have added a few new hot things to the menu, the sort you want when you come in off West Street with cold hands.

First, the bacon sandwich. Thick cut bacon, proper bread, served with crisps and salad, Simple, hot, and exactly what a lot of you have been asking us for. There is a sausage sandwich too if that is more your thing, and cheese on toast for anyone who likes the old fashioned version done well. 🥪

We are also doing hot chocolate , made properly and served the way everything is served here, in vintage china at a table laid with flowers. It goes rather nicely with a scone. ☕

And if you are in for lunch, our four toasted sandwiches are served with crisps and coleslaw. Melted cheddar and mature Lancashire, cheddar and moorland ham, cheddar and red onion marmalade, or the tuna melt.

We’re hiring an experienced waiter 🫖

The Old Stables Vintage Tea Room in Chorley is looking for an experienced waiter to join our small team.

⏰ 30 hours a week over five days
🏠 20 West Street, Chorley PR7 2SJ

You’ll be taking orders and serving our customers, running teas, lunches and cakes, keeping the floor spotless and helping the kitchen with prep. We’re after someone who has done this before and can walk in and hold a busy section without being told twice.

What we need from you: previous waiting or front of house experience, a warm manner with customers, and flexibility across the week including weekends.

Every Tuesday, Without Fail 🎩

She has been coming to us longer than we can properly count, and not once has she walked through that door looking anything less than magnificent. 🌸

Here she is at her usual table, enjoying her tea. 🫖

It is easy to talk about atmosphere as though a tea room conjures it up all by itself. It does not. It is bunting and china and lamplight, yes. But mostly it is the people who come through the door and make the place what it is.

Thank you, Lisa, for the effort, for the elegance, and for keeping Tuesdays looking as Tuesdays ought to look. 💐

The pot will be warming for you again next week. 🕰️
