Have you ever wondered what Rivington’s terrain looks like?

Those lines running across this map aren’t walking routes, they’re contour lines, and they tell the story of the land.

Each line represents a change in elevation. The closer together the lines are, the steeper the ground.

The further apart they are, the gentler the slope.

And if you’ve ever made the climb up towards Rivington Pike, your legs will already know exactly what those tightly packed lines mean. 😂

Rivington Pike sits at 363 metres above sea level, rising above the surrounding West Pennine Moors, with the landscape falling away towards the reservoirs and lower ground below.

Then there’s the Pigeon Tower, sitting high on the terraced hillside — part of the remarkable landscape created around the former Lever Park estate.

Not just somewhere we go for a walk, ride our bikes, grab a coffee or climb the Pike, but as a landscape shaped by height, water, geology and people over time.

And somewhere amongst all those gradients, paths, woodland, and moorland is our little Fika. ☕️

Did you know… walking for leisure is the most popular physical activity in England!

Around 22.9 million adults now take part in leisure walking, which is nearly half the adult population.

Rivington has long been a much loved place for walkers.

22.9 million pairs of walking boots… and we reckon a fair few of them deserve a coffee afterwards. 😁

The land we come back to.
