Calling all parents of children under 5! This Thursday, join us for our next Boris Bear Cubs session which is themed around loving our city and recycling.

Boris Bear Cubs is perfect for our youngest museum visitors, and each session is held in the Wells Suite for 60 minutes. This gives the children a larger space to play, explore and learn, as well as giving parents the opportunity to connect with each other. These sessions are held every other Thursday during the school term and are themed to different topics featured in the museum.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Have you seen this intriguing painting which is currently displayed in our Timeless Treasures exhibition?

The ‘Have You Heard This One?’ oil painting by Reginald Brill features three men talking on a park bench, two men are smiling and laughing, and one looks shocked. As part of Visual Literacy Week, we alongside and are challenging you to look closer at this image, think about what you can see, reflect on what the purpose may be and questions that could be asked.

What do you think they could be talking about?

Why are two of them smiling?

When do you think this painting was taken based on visual cues, such as their clothing?

Our next SEN Friendly Day will take place on Saturday 10 October from 10am to 5pm.

These specially designed days offer a quieter, more inclusive museum experience for visitors with sensory, neurodiverse or additional needs, as well as their families, friends and carers.

To help visitors feel comfortable, we reduce sensory stimulation where possible by lowering audio effects, minimising background noise, switching off hand dryers, and providing sensory resources such as ear defenders, fidget toys and access to quiet spaces.

Our Discover Studio is a great place for reading, crafting and chilling out too!
