Regarding Hespin Wood
We have been at the Metal Bridge Inn since 2011. We knew Hespin Wood was a recycling center for Carlisle/Cumbrias waste, this has never been an issue until earlier this year. Since then it has been turned into a stinking dumping ground for all over the UK. Not to mention the current state of the roads and excessive number of HGVs racing back and forward, presumably to meet their targets. The whole thing is a disgrace.
At this point, life for the locals is a living nightmare at times and as a business, our future/summer trade is uncertain.
The only way change might happen is if we all keep reporting it. Even if you’re just driving past it and smell it, you can report it as many times as you’d like using the link below ⬇️
https://www.gov.uk/report-smell
You can also call them on:
Environment Agency: 0800 80 70 60
We get through on this number fairly quickly normally.
And the following link can also be used to report the state of this service road and the junction. ⬇️
https://www.cumberland.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-transport/streets-roads-and-pavements/road-maintenance-closures-and-improvements/report-problem-street-or-road
The service road was once a “safer” and “quieter” route instead of using the M6. Now it is an unsafe disgrace of a road and it’s only a matter of time until something happens.
All we can do is try and make a difference. If possible could you take 5 minutes and just make a report? And share the links with others who may be affected by this. I’m sure everyone in the area will be truly grateful.
