Our monthly jazz returns this sunday at 10:30am with Sam🌿 on drums, Joe Northwood on saxophone and Craig Nyamunda on bass.

Will and Tess are gonna be here behind bar offering many yummy hot beverages and sweet treats.

Please bring a bit of cash if you can to tip the band, it all goes straight to the musicians. Also... Sam is bringing copies of his album, Rivers and Lakes, to sell. So even more reason to bring some moneys as its a lovely listen.

Here’s what we’ve got going on for this eve.

Margaritas are making an appearance at Rachel’s request. Sharp, refreshing and exactly what a margarita ought to be.

We’ve also got a new coffee based beverage, the Udarnik, a mec take on a black russian. Boozy and coffee forward with warming spice.

Both of these can be made alcohol free too. But have a look through the rest of the menu and see what takes your fancy..

From this saturday onwards we’ll be getting a fresh delivery from dirtsugarriot. We’ll have pain aux raisins, pain au choc and cinnamon buns, made by Shauna, vegan and allergen free. Would look extremely good next to a cup of coffee wouldnt you say?

They’ll be landing fresh every Saturday morning, and this week we’ve managed to sneak in an extra delivery for sunday's cardiff half marathon. Running it, watching it or having absolutely nothing to do with it are all equally valid reasons grab a pastry.

we’ve got a new coffee from Skylark Coffee on the bar and this one’s pretty special.

'Harvest' is the second of four limited edition coffees skylark are releasing throughout the year, following on from 'Midsummer'. The series is a project Will’s, so naturally we’re so pleased to have the next instalment in the shop.

this one comes from kerehaklu in Karnataka, India. Will went there this year towards the end of the arabica harvest and stayed with Pranoy at the farm. He got to see how the coffee is grown, processed, learning how they roast and, very excitingly, cupping this coffee there before deciding to buy it. So a nice full circle moment now having it on the bar back home.

Harvest is an anoxic washed coffee, which basically means it starts fermenting in an “oxygen reduced environment” before being washed. Pranoy initiated fermentation using liquid from another active fermentation, known as Mosto. Clever stuff, and it’s led to a very sweet and very autumn appropriate coffee with notes of apple crumble, pecan and raisin.

We’ve got it on guest espresso at the moment and, because we’re particularly enjoying it, we’ve stuck it on batch brew today too. We also have some boxes on the shelves to buy for home brewing that come with a great illustration by Jackie Morris 🦊👍

"Harvest" is the second of four limited edition coffees Skylark are releasing throughout the year, following on from "Midsummer". The series is a project of Will’s, so naturally we’re all son pleased to have the next instalment in the shop.

this one comes from kerehaklu in Karnataka, India, a family run farm now run by Ajoy and Pranoy Thipaiah who grow coffee alongside a pretty incredible amount of other plants and wildlife.

Will went out to see them this year and stayed with Pranoy at the farm to get a proper look at how they do things, seeing how the coffee is grown, processed, learning how they roast and, very excitingly, cupping this coffee there before deciding to buy it. Clever stuff, and it’s led to a very sweet and very autumn appropriate coffee thats giving apple crumble, pecan and raisin.

its on guest espresso at the moment and, because we’re particularly enjoying it, we’ve stuck it on batch brew today too. Also available to get for home brewing so come grab a box. 🦊👍

This friday we’ve got our friend Rachel, otherwise known as Ivor Woods, taking over the records for the Late Night Cafe.

We asked Ivor Woods the obvious important questions including what we might expect coming out of the speakers.

q: go to cocktail
a: perhaps a margarita

q: favourite record
a: Aja - Steely Dan

q: coffee order?
a: oat flat white

q: what kind of music do you make?
a: an eclectic mix of 70s psychedelia, indie and electronic

Come down for nice drinks, little snacks and sounds, courtesy of another great human.

Our pal Rhys from Rhys Davies has brought his spiced pumpkin cake to the shop and it is, unsurprisingly, extremely delicious.

Soft, flavoursome, topped with a very generous layer of homemade icing and crunchy bits on top. Its completely vegan as well.

We’ve been getting cakes from Rhys since we opened...(nearly 7 years!?) and they’re consistently very, very good, so we’re always pleased when he brings us new cakes.

Looky here. There’s a load of new bottles on the shelves from Les Caves De Pyrene - natural, organic & biodynamic wines. A bit of everything up there at the moment, with a few migrating into the fridge ready to be poured at late night cafe this evening.

We’re super keen to pour Andert’s alcohol free zweigelt, ‘Kräutertraube’, from Burgenland, Austria. andert use low intervention and biodynamic practices, and have infused this one with herbs and flowers growing amongst the vines. It’s a very interesting bottle and proof that alcohol free is fun too.

We’re also quite excited about ‘Disco Nouveau’ from Little Pomona in Herefordshire, just over the border in England. It’s a pét nat c***r inspired by Beaujolais Nouveau and made with discovery apples. One of the first varieties to ripen in the UK. Very tasty stuff.

If you can’t make it this evening but something on the shelves takes your fancy, you can always pop in and grab a bottle to take home.

We’ve got some Hario V60s (size 02) and glass carafes in the shop now for anyone wanting to stylishly make a very tasty coffee at home.

These V60s are also part of Hario’s collaboration with Project Waterfall, celebrating 20 years of the V60.

Project Waterfall do really important work helping coffee growing communities get access to clean water and proper sanitation, which feels like a pretty good thing to support when so much of what we do relies on those communities in the first place.

The 400ml carafe is its perfect buddy. It’s made from heatproof glass and nicely sized for brewing into. Plus, is just a handsome little vessel for whatever else you fancy putting in it.

They’re £15 each, or grab the pair and we’ll chuck in some V60 papers for free so you’ve got everything you need to get going.

They’re on the shelves now and, if you’ve never made a V60 before, ask us and we’ll happily talk you through it 👍
