Over the past few weeks, weโve had so many people asking whether we would be applying for the cafรฉ tender at Tredegar Park (Newport). We can now confirm that we did.
Firstly, weโd like to thank everyone who wished us luck and believed in what we could bring to the project. The support has genuinely meant a lot to us.
Unfortunately, our application wasnโt successful. Whilst weโre naturally disappointed, weโre incredibly proud of the submission we put together. We received some excellent feedback on our proposal and the vision we presented.
We truly believe that our family-driven, community-centred approach would have been a huge asset to Tredegar Park for many years to come. Our vision was about far more than simply operating a cafรฉ - it was about creating a welcoming community hub, delivering free family events, supporting local suppliers, creating local employment opportunities and giving visitors even more reasons to enjoy everything the park has to offer.
That said we didnโt agree with some of the aspects of the evaluation. We believe some areas of our submission were marked lower than the published criteria justified. We appreciate that appeals rarely change the final outcome, but we felt it was important to raise our concerns and ensure the process is properly reviewed.
We had over 10+ letters of support from councillors, suppliers, schools, charities and some customers - to be used as backing for the application, but fell on death ears.
Of course, disappointment doesnโt define us.
Our focus remains exactly where it has always been โ delivering the very best experience possible for all our customers and visitors The Glade Cafe and The Hatch at Waunfawr Park . We have exciting plans for both cafรฉs over the coming weeks, months and years, and weโll continue investing in our businesses, our staff and the communities we serve.
Thank you to every customer who has supported us, visited us, recommended us and believed in what we do. We never take that support for granted.
This wasnโt the outcome we hoped for, but weโll keep moving forward, keep growing and keep looking for the next opportunity to bring our ideas to life.
