Horsham coffee roaster specialises in premium, traceable, ethically sourced, freshly roasted coffee.

Horsham Coffee Roaster is based in West Sussex and specialises in the sale of freshly roasted, ethically traded coffee. We roast all our beans to order using a traditional cast iron drum roaster. We only sell coffee that has been ethically source and fairly traded. In many cases also organic, Rainforest Alliance or UTZ certified. Many of our coffees are traded with producers through direct relationships.

New coffee from Mexico - El Cuarenteño 🇲🇽
Plum. Caramel. Milk chocolate. ☕

Our newest single origin comes from Nayarit, on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Grupo Terruño Nayarita grows it at around 1,100m, with Bourbon, Typica, Caturra, and Catuai.

Every cherry is hand harvested, sorted, then washed at one of two small wet mills, Sandía and Rústico. It’s sun-dried on rooftops and courtyards across the village, then rested for 14 weeks before export.
Fantastic as a well balanced filter coffee or a light roast espresso.

La Isla SL28 natural from Costa Rica is back 🇨🇷
It’s great to have this high cup score, natural processed SL28 back in stock. It comes from Luis Padilla’s farm in the West Valley where he grows a range of varietals including SL28, Geisha and Villa Sarchi across 10.5 hectares. Luis bought La Isla in 2017, inspired by his grandfather’s coffee farm in Naranjo, and since then they have received several Cup of Excellence awards.
This lot is all SL28, a Kenyan-bred varietal famous for its bright, juicy acidity. It was carefully hand-sorted and slow-dried on raised tables as a natural, so the cherry stays intact and the fruit sweetness comes through in the cup.
In the cup you can expect tasting notes that include

🍊 Blood orange

This limited microlot comes from our friends Steven Mora and family at La Karola in Tarrazú. We’ve been buying from them since 2019, and this is one of the most experimental lots they’ve sent us.

Here’s how they made it:
🍒 Ripe cherries fermented for 48 hours in open tanks, in total darkness
🌑 Slow-dried on raised beds in a dark room
💨 Airflow, temperature and humidity controlled with fans
⏳ 45 days of drying to reach the right moisture level
The result is a high-scoring cup with notes of black cherry, red grape and maple syrup, plus plum and treacle underneath.

This month we’re shining a light on one of our relationship producers, Luis Padilla of La Isla in Naranjo, Costa Rica’s West Valley.

Luis bought La Isla in 2017, inspired by his grandfather, who farmed coffee in Naranjo for many years. Since then he’s been steadily regenerating the 10.5-hectare farm section by section, and the results speak for themselves, with a string of Cup of Excellence awards in recent years.

Our Coffee of the Month is a honey, hand-picked at around 1,600 masl. After harvest, the cherries go through a low-water eco-pulper that removes most of the fruit, leaving just a thin layer of sticky mucilage on the bean. It’s then dried for about ten days on raised beds and turned regularly for even drying. That little bit of fruit left on during drying gives honey-processed coffees their extra sweetness, body, and a hint of fruit. Head over to the website to join the club!

New in: Wahana Estate Washed, Indonesia 🇮🇩
Most Indonesian coffee you’ll come across is wet-hulled (giling basah) — that heavy, earthy, low-acid cup style the region’s known for. This one is very different.

Grown at 1,250–1,450 masl in Sidikalang, North Sumatra, this lot comes from Wahana, an estate covering 468 hectares, home to 200 families and 1,000 workers, with its own housing, healthcare, school and church on site. Coffee sits alongside vegetables and tea, and the estate has a reputation for pushing into experimental varietals and processing.

This particular lot is P88 — which started life in a Dutch varietal trial in the 1980s, traces back to a Colombian Catimor, and got to Sumatra via Thailand and Kenya. Rather than wet-hulling the coffee, Wahana ran this one through their own washed process: cherries pulped at the on-estate mill, parchment fermented for 12 hours, then dried over 7 days across covered patios and finished in temp controlled mechanical driers.

The result is genuinely unusual for the origin — clementine, raisin, matcha tea.

Whole cherries sealed in oxygen-free tanks for two days before slow drying on raised beds. The result: a light, juicy, tropical flavour profile showcasing the best of Costa Rican coffee.

Grown at high altitude on El Naranjo farm and processed by the Montero family at their Don Eli micro-mill — partners of ours for 5+ years running.
Brews beautifully through a filter but also fantastic for anyone keen on super juicy, fruity espresso.

Hand-harvested at high altitude on El Naranjo farm and processed at the Don Eli micro-mill by the Montero family — partners we’ve been working with for over 5 years. The cherries spend 48 hours fermenting in sealed, oxygen-free tanks before drying slowly on raised beds, turned by hand to keep everything even. That anaerobic natural process is what gives this cup its intensity.

A stunning AA microlot, extended-fermented washed process showcasing the classic Kenya flavour profile.
