To all of our great customers. As you will probably already know this weekend will be our last at The Salt. So it would be great to have you here with us this last few days.
It is with a very heavy heart that we have to share some news we never wanted to write.
After giving everything we possibly can to this pub, we have made the incredibly difficult decision that we can no longer continue.
Running a pub has never just been about pulling pints, serving food or balancing the books. A proper pub is about people. Itβs about friendships, laughter, celebrations, familiar faces walking through the door and the simple pleasure of hearing somebody say, βUsual, please.β
Sadly, the reality of running a pub today has become incredibly difficult. The ever-increasing costs of energy, stock, wages, business rates and so many other expenses have reached a point where, despite all the hard work and determination in the world, it is becoming impossible for many independent landlords to keep going.
Walking away is heartbreaking because we are not simply leaving a business behind. We are leaving people who have become friends, customers who have supported us through good times and difficult ones, and a place filled with memories that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.
To every single person who has walked through our doors, bought a pint, enjoyed a meal, joined us for an evening of entertainment, shared a laugh at the bar or simply stopped by to say hello β thank you.
And to our wonderful regulars and loyal customers, I genuinely cannot put into words what your support has meant. You are the heartbeat of a pub. Without you, it is simply a building with a bar in it.
There is sadness and disappointment in having to say goodbye, particularly when there is still so much love for the pub and so many things I would have liked to achieve. Sometimes, however, circumstances leave you with a decision that your heart desperately doesnβt want to make, but your head knows you have to.
We leave with our heads held high, enormously grateful for the friendships made, the memories created and every person who chose to support us.
Please continue to support your local pubs whenever you can. Use them, enjoy them and treasure them, because once these places disappear from our communities, they are incredibly difficult to get back.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this journey.
It has been an absolute privilege to be your landlord and landlady.
Until we raise a glass together again. β€οΈπΊ
