🚨 COUNTERFEIT BANKNOTE WARNING 🚨

We’ve seen an increase in reports of counterfeit banknotes circulating locally, particularly in North Aberdeenshire. Before accepting any cash, please take a moment to check the look and feel of every note — it could save you from becoming the victim of a crime.

Criminals often hide counterfeit notes among genuine ones, so check ALL notes carefully.

Check for spelling mistakes, wording, changes to the hologram. Check each note to see if the serial numbers are duplicated

⚠️ Knowingly using counterfeit money is a criminal offence. ⚠️

If you suspect a note is fake, report it immediately by calling 101.

Criminals may also target people using Facebook Marketplace to sell items. Recently, there was an incident in the North East where scammers used fake £20 notes to purchase an iPhone advertised on Facebook Marketplace. The seller was left out of pocket after receiving counterfeit cash for the device.

Please stay vigilant when selling items online — especially high‑value goods — and consider choosing secure payment methods.
