What can I really say ?
I know we are closed on Sundays and Mondays what would you do if someone park their car in your car park or block the entrance ?

If you are desperate to park for any reason I will do my best to help you but you can’t just park here ….

Bristol City Council

Dear Bristol City Council,

Since the bus gate was installed outside my shop, I’ve discovered an unexpected new service that Hamblins now provides…

🚚 Van Parking
🚛 HGV Waiting Area
🔄 Three-Point Turn Training Centre
🚑 Emergency U-Turn Assistance

Every day, vehicles unable or unwilling to go through the bus gate stop outside, pull into private spaces, block visibility, turn around on pavements, or use nearby businesses and car parks to find an alternative route.

Today I needed to leave to visit my doctor, but my exit was blocked by yet another van parked outside.

Can Bristol City Council advise what local businesses are supposed to do when their access is regularly obstructed as a result of the traffic changes?

This isn’t about being anti-bus gate. It’s about dealing with the real-world consequences that businesses and residents are facing every day.

At the moment, drivers are confused, pedestrians are at risk, private property is being used as a turning point, and access is regularly obstructed.

Any practical suggestions would be appreciated.

Bristol City Council

I’ve been sent the attached email which states that the Avonvale Road Bus Gate entered a “soft enforcement” period on 26th May and that “hard enforcement” (fines) will begin on 16th June.

Can Bristol City Council please confirm whether this information is correct and provide an official update for residents, businesses and visitors in the area?

I am asking because many customers, local residents and pedestrians regularly ask me for information about the bus gate. Unfortunately, I cannot give them a clear answer because I have not received any direct communication or official update from the Council regarding enforcement dates or how the scheme is operating.

At the moment, there is a lot of confusion. Some people believe fines are already being issued, others believe the bus gate is not active, and many simply don’t know what the rules are.

This confusion is also creating safety concerns. I regularly see:

* Drivers braking suddenly when they realise they are approaching the bus gate.
* Vehicles mounting pavements or making unsafe manoeuvres to turn around.
* Drivers using private car parks, including my own, to perform U-turns.
* General uncertainty which increases the risk of accidents involving pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

A clear and public statement from Bristol City Council would help businesses like mine provide accurate information and would reduce confusion for everyone using the area.

Can someone from the Council please confirm:

1. Is the bus gate currently active?
2. When do warning notices start?
3. When do penalty fines begin?
4. What information has been provided to local businesses and residents?

Thank you.
