My new glass cutter is utterly sublime.
It feels like a fancy fountain pen, very ergonomically, and cuts like a dream! A glass cutter is a glass artists most used tool. We don't really need much else to make stained glass, a pair of grozing pliers, and a lead knife, but that's it really. There's lots of fancy gadgets around, but a decent glass cutter is essential. This one is top tier!

Sound up for this one.
Such a fun and joyous commission.
I saw her last year at Glastonbury, and she was epic!
Might make one for myself..
Thanks for the inspiration Nen!

When i work on my commissions, often i only use half of my kiln for mmall detailed pieces. To be economical, I fill those spaces with scraps that I paint, sometimes in a controlled way, sometimes just a free brush stroke. It's a very loose, undetermined way of working, but I love the juxtaposition of the two. II don't have an idea yet of what to do with them, but in time, they will be used in my personal work. Sometimes, I like to just lay a few out and play with them and get excited....🤣

Sometimes, the colours of standard glass aren't fitting for brown skin tones. They are either too brown or too opaque. The person who requested this piece described his wifes skin as "golden like the sun" so we settled for this semi opaque rich orange.
The blue section is the 'raw edge' usually cut off and discarded. I love the organic feel to a raw edge.
Each piece varies, and they are completely unique.

Good Morning, Evening, to any new followers, (whereever you are in the world) that have joined in the past few months. I feel like I'm only just taking a breath after the airing of BBC one's- I Made it at Market.
Thank you for joining me on my curious exploration in glass as a medium versus the daily grind of running a small business to pay the bills!
For those who are new, I'm Charlotte. I run Leadlight Studio in from my (old) dining room in Bristol. I started making stained glass in 2019 and made my first Lido Lady that i sold to a work colleague. I make a lot of swimming and botanical pieces. I enjoy making stained glass accessible to everyone, creating pieces that hang in windows without the fuss of any renovation work. (But I do love making bigger work too!) Outside of work I am part of an outdoor synchronised swimming group calked The Bristol Bobbles and also work at my local Community Sauna to make sure I get out of my studio as I find it hard to stop. I also care for my elderly neighbour and friend Sandra, who has been living with dementia for several years. I have two amazing kids that are both on their own creative journeys, and they inspire me daily. So there's a lot going on!
I am excited to continue exploring glass as a medium incorporating different methods and sharing my experiments (good and bad!) At the moment, I sell my work predomantly through my website through quarterly updates and requested commissions. I also take part annually in the North Bristol Arts Trail in November.
So thank you for your support. It means the world..
Best Wishes and Blue Skies
Charlotte ☺️

You'll need your shades on for this post!
Myself and popped along to see Jim Halts exhibition. It was lovely to meet you Jim, and wonderful to see these in person after following your process and progress for many years.
That much stain on one panel is insanely good!
Check it out if you can. It's on for a month.
See info in bio

It's only by experimenting that we are able to explore, move forwards and develop. Samples are a great way of keeping track of what works, and what doesn't. I have a box of them as well as a catalogue of firing schedules. I often have to refer back to see how I created a particular mark or pattern. It's like a giant glass sketchbook!
