A family run steakhouse and European restaurant that specialises in the best available British beef, prime cut meats and seafood dishes. In 1976 Michael Garman opened IL Bistro in Brighton after he returned from travelling around Europe learning the Mediterranean culture and cuisine. His goal was to open Brighton’s first Mediterranean steakhouse. Brightonian’s were able to order for the first time

fresh pasta, arancini, dry aged British beef, tiramisu and negroni’s. 46 years later and now being operated by Michaels son Abe IL Bistro still stands by the same principles, using local suppliers and produce, fresh ingredients and the best available dry aged British beef. Set in a fisherman's cottage which dates back to the 18th century in the reign of George I the restaurant is situated in the heart of The Lanes in Market street and is within walking distance from the beach, Churchill square, the Royal Pavilion and the Theatre Royal and is open for pre theatre dining, breakfast and lunches seven days a week.

On Thursday 14th May, we’re bringing the bold, sun soaked flavours of Puglia straight to your table for one night only.

For just £35 per person, enjoy a three-course menu with two expertly paired wines, exceptional value for a fully curated dining experience.

Start with grilled marinated squid, bright with fresh lemon & aioli, paired beautifully with Appassimento Negroamaro.

Then dive into a true Puglian favourite, orecchiette con cime di rapa. Rich and comforting, layered with broccolini, anchovies, toasted breadcrumbs, charred olives, and torn burrata, served alongside Mozzafiato Primitivo.

Finish on a high with our homemade almond & apricot crumble, lifted with orange zest

Join us on Thursday 12th February for a special Veneto Evening, celebrating the flavours and wines of northern Italy.

For one night only, we’ll be serving a three course Venetian inspired menu, thoughtfully paired with wines from the Veneto region.
