A great effort yesterday from striker Seb Johnson saw him collect the coaches Player of the Match against Hedon Rangers.

Seb showed once again his ability to be in the right place at the right time for the opening goal but more impressivley some lovely one touch passing to open up the game for his attacking partners.

We’re so excited to be adding Smashed Avocado on Sourdough Toast to our brand-new breakfast menu! 😍

Fresh, simple and seriously tasty — perfect if you fancy something a little lighter to start your day.

❤️ A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR OUR OLDER GENERATION ❤️

On Tuesday 20th October, we’d love to welcome 70 older members of our local community to The Black Swan for a completely FREE lunch.

Come along, take a seat and enjoy a good old-fashioned plate of:

🍽️ Sausage, mash, peas & gravy
🌱 Vegetarian sausage available

And once everyone’s had something to eat, one of our lovely in-house quiz teams will be putting on a fun afternoon quiz for us too!

What makes this lunch particularly special is that some wonderful local people and businesses have come together to help us make it happen. ❤️

🌭 Ian Broumpton and James White Butchers are providing the sausages
🫛 Swaythorpe Growers are providing the peas
🦢 And The Black Swan will be providing the rest and getting everything cooked and ready for you!

There’s no charge and nothing expected in return. We simply want to put on a lovely lunch, get people together and hopefully see plenty of familiar faces — and some new ones too.

There will be a voluntary donation box on the day for anyone who would like to pop something in, but please don’t feel you have to. Anything kindly donated will go towards putting on another lunch in November.

We’d love for this to become something we can do regularly — a chance to enjoy some good food, good company, a few laughs and a bit of friendly competition afterwards. ❤️

THIS is why we said… visit a pub! 🍺❤️

Over the weekend we asked everyone to get out and support a pub — so we thought we’d better take our own advice!

On the way back from the kids’ football, we stopped off at the Derwent Arms near Malton for a pint… and ended up having a chat with a couple of parrots in the b**r garden! 😂🦜🍺

And that’s exactly why pub visits are the best. You never quite know who you’re going to meet, what you’re going to see or what random story you’ll come home with!

So keep visiting pubs. Have a pint, grab some food, have a chat and support these brilliant places. ❤️

You definitely don’t get this sat at home on the sofa! 😂

🚨 PUBLIC APPEAL – CAN YOU HELP? 🚨

A pair of boxer shorts or long johns 🤔 were discovered abandoned in the men’s toilets at The Black Swan this morning. 🩲😂

At this stage, we have absolutely no idea how they got there, why they were removed, or how the owner managed to leave without them. 🤔

We are appealing for witnesses.

If anyone has any information, please come forward to help with our investigations. 🕵️‍♂️

Alternatively, if they’re yours, they can be collected from behind the bar…

No questions asked. 😂😂

Please share so we can reunite them with their rightful owner. 🩲

🍻 THIS WEEKEND, FIND A PUB. ❤️

Summer has gone.

The b**r gardens aren’t full, the long sunny evenings have disappeared and those spontaneous “shall we go for a pint?” afternoons become fewer and fewer.

And for many local pubs, this is when it gets tough.

The bills don’t get smaller because summer has finished. The lights still need switching on, the b**r still needs ordering, the staff still need paying and the doors still need opening — even on those cold, dark nights when there might only be a handful of people inside.

Across Britain, 161 pubs closed for good in just the first three months of 2026.

We really don’t want to see more of them disappear.

So this weekend, wherever you are…

Find a pub.

Have a pint. 🍺
Have a bite to eat. 🍴
Take the family.
Meet your mates.
Talk to a stranger at the bar.
Watch the football.
Play a game of pool.
And most importantly, have a laugh.

It doesn’t have to be The Black Swan. Go to your favourite local, try one you’ve never been in before, or finally visit that little pub you’ve driven past a hundred times.

Because these places matter.

They’re where we celebrate birthdays, raise a glass to people we’ve lost, meet old friends, make new ones and put the world to rights for an hour or two.

Pubs need people all year round — not just when the sun is shining.

So this weekend, give your local a little bit of love. ❤️

Because pubs need people… and sometimes people need pubs too. 🍻
