I don’t usually write posts like this, but today feels like one of those days where honesty matters.

The first year I opened my restaurant, business rates were £340 a month. The second year, they jumped to £740. Today, I’ve just received the new figure… £840.

Butter last year was £40 a box — now it’s £79.50.
Cherry tomatoes went from £11 to £20.
Edible flowers from £2 to £3.
Minimum wage has gone from £10 to £12.71 in just two years.
And let’s not even get started on VAT and national insurance.

Behind every plate we serve, there’s so much more than ingredients. There’s time, pressure, sacrifice. I’ve worked through the last days of my pregnancy because self-employment doesn’t stop. After an emergency C-section, I was back at work just four days later. I couldn’t breastfeed my baby because I simply didn’t have the time. Time was something I couldn’t afford.

I’ve missed moments with my daughter that I’ll never get back — all to keep this place alive.

We try every day to give you the best: beautiful plates, quality ingredients, an experience that feels special. But the reality is, everything around us keeps getting more expensive. Hiring help is becoming impossible when wages rise — and rightly so — but it leaves small businesses like ours struggling to keep up.

The only way to survive is to increase prices.
But I also understand that for many people, dining out is becoming a luxury.

So here I am, asking myself… will it all be worth it one day?

To everyone who has supported us, believed in us, and walked through our doors — thank you. Truly. We wouldn’t still be here without you.

We just hope we can find a way to keep going.
