While we are so grateful for the support and so excited to see you all in person we are CLOSED over the holidays until Thursday 17th - we know it’s impeccable timing 😅

We were nervous about the outcome of bringing light to the issue on socials but we are so glad that we spoke out. It’s easy to feel like just a wee cafe but with all of your support we have really felt like part of something bigger! The outpouring of support from the public and business community has been overwhelming and we are forever grateful.

We appreciate your patience during this short break, and we’ll keep you updated as we move forward.

The Halt café opened on the Beersbridge Road two years ago. The owners are now objecting that a new food court in the former Europa Bus Centre has the same name.

We never thought we’d be writing this - but here we are addressing the HALT shaped elephant in the room.

Recently, a large corporation, MRP announced “Halt” food court to open in the old Europa, using the name and a logo in our opinion strikingly similar to ours. We started to get messages from friends, family and customers asking if we were expanding?! Unfortunately not the case…yet.

We are not affiliated in anyway and continue to operate from 373 Beersbridge Road.

This isn’t to say we don’t support the local businesses to be included in the market just the naming of the market itself.

As a grassroots business that has poured everything into building Halt (literally) with integrity and creativity, we’re heartbroken that seeing our name everywhere isn’t for our own success but for another business entirely.

We wrote to MRP in May and made them aware that there already was a Halt just 10 mins up the road. We asked them to change the name of their proposed market before they even opened but they have declined to do so!
They do not accept that this could be both confusing and damaging to our business. The amount of stress and time this has caused our family in the last few months has been hard to manage along side the business, we can’t imagine that’s going to change from them opening tomorrow.

This is just another example of how big corporations can stamp out small, independent businesses — not by doing it better, but by doing whatever they like and having deeper pockets to facilitate that.

We’re still here and continue to be because of your support.

Where do we even begin...

It's been a bit of a whirlwind around here recently, we're so grateful for all the feedback, patience and understanding.

As a result, we need to hire more staff to maintain our quality of food and service.

It's been a month since we first welcomed all of you wonderful people. We still can't believe how much love and support we've had, and this is just the beginning.

We dropped in to Halt for a bite to eat, and we were immediately struck by the tasteful minimalist vibe, and the tempting menu choices
