As a result the chippy will be shutters down at 6.45pm.

HELP US STOP FAKE MONEY

A Friendly Reminder About Banknotes

We have recently been handed fake £20 notes.

So to protect our business and our community, we will be checking all £20 & £10 notes.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR NOTES BEFORE YOU PAY. If a note is found to be counterfeit, we are legally required to retain it and it will be reported to the police.

The Bank of England's official guide to checking £20 notes can be found on their website. Look for the security features:
• The hologram that changes between 'Twenty' and 'Pounds'
• The raised print on the words "Bank of England"
• The metallic thread woven through the paper

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

It is a criminal offence to knowingly possess or pass counterfeit currency. We are obliged by law to retain any note suspected of being counterfeit.

A few years ago we had an attempted break-in. We have never and still don't keep cash on the premises but we did have a charity box back then.

We have had requests to have a charity box since. We wholeheartedly support collecting for charities. Like many other people have, we have also been touched personally by serious health conditions.

We have and still do support many charities through personal donations and through our business via raffle prizes and donations.

But we decided following the attempted break-in, and at a cost to our business of over £3,000 in repairs and shutter installation that we couldn't afford to take the risk.

So we hope you understand if we politely say we have this policy in place for this reason.
