The news from Claythorpe Watermill
Thanks to everyone who’s enquired about whether we’ll be open again this year. The short answer is no.
It’s been an amazing 13 years and it’s been truly moving to hear how much Claythorpe means to so many of you. But over the last year we’ve given a huge amount of thought to the next steps for our family – and about the many possible futures for the mill itself – and decided that running the cafe and venue from our home isn’t the life for us any more.
So right now, our beautiful old mill is becoming a wonderful family home, and Miller's Cottage at Claythorpe Watermill remains a fabulous holiday cottage for anyone looking for a relaxing break in the Lincolnshire countryside.
However.
We’re definitely planning for what comes next, and it’s likely that we’ll be putting the mill on the market at some point in the next year.
What does that mean for the future of Claythorpe? That will be up to someone else to decide.
Although the mill is now a four bedroom home, there would be a huge range of possibilities for anyone interested in purchasing the site as a whole – including many options to operate as a commercial venue. Or they may want to develop the old granary which now has full planning permission for conversion to a further stunning four-bed house.
Someone may want to pick up our work to develop a glamping site and further holiday accommodation to run alongside the holiday cottage. Or they may simply want to live by the river in one of Lincolnshire’s most recognisable landmarks. There’s potential to divide the site, or to purchase as a whole, perhaps with a view to multi-generational living.
To be clear, we’re not on the market yet, but we’re happy for serious prospective buyers to contact us by email or DM (no phone calls please!) and we’ll keep in touch over the next few months.
To everyone who’s loved their time with us at Claythorpe or who’s been with us on the journey… thank you.
