How's this for a cheese course?

We've smoked some Fen Farm Dairy Baron Bigod (the cheese of gods) and melted it over toasted Earl Grey malt loaf with honey butter. A little red berry mustard comes on the side to cut through all that richness.

It's another gorgeous day here in Aldeburgh ☀️

There's a gentle breeze coming off the sea, the early afternoon sun is pouring into the dining room and we're just about to open the doors for lunch.

We'll have tables out the front for drinks and bar snacks, the bar lounge is nice and cool if you'd prefer to be inside, and lunch will be served on the roof terrace too.

Meet Louis. You'll usually find him behind the bar at The Suffolk, shaking and stirring cocktails from lunch through to late evening.

His favourite? The Sur-Mertini, made with oyster-infused gin distilled especially for us by our friends just down the road . It's even served with a Maldon Oyster Co. oyster on the side.

Or perhaps the Aldeburgh Sour. Gin, amaretto, apricot jam, lemon juice, Angostura bitters and egg white, shaken until silky smooth.

We're very lucky here in Aldeburgh to have art galleries in abundance. Just opposite us on the High Street is The Aldeburgh Gallery, where a new exhibition, Balance, has just opened.

The exhibition brings together the work of Suffolk artists Boo Compton and Sally-Ann Elliott. Boo's colourful abstract paintings explore emotion and a sense of connection, while Sally-Ann's striking textile pieces are inspired by her love of pattern, colour and harmony.

Balance runs from 16th-22nd July. Well worth popping across the road for a browse before lunch, or perhaps after a Sea Buckthorn Margarita in our bar lounge 💙
