16. A much later wildflower cake than the one I published earlier in this series and I think this one is more refined. As with so many things in life I’d never hurts to pause and look back to see how far you’ve come.

I make so many of these two digit cakes - they have definitely overtaken bouquets as my best seller.

Summer Series!

15. Another recent bake and I’m slightly surprised that this made it onto my favourites list as it’s a semi-naked finish which I’m not usually a fan of and also I’m not in love with the slightly wobbly writing on the numbers. But…..I think the overall design is a classic and the cake peeping through really adds to the vintage feeling. And I can forgive myself the slight wobble to the numbers as I was piping this in 38 degree heat and the buttercream was turning to liquid as I piped them on!

14. Another of my favourite bouquets - can’t remember any back story for this one, although I do know it’s the original design of one that I have been asked to recreate lots of times.

I’m no longer above to do an exact replication though as the food colour - regal purple - I used to make the glorious bright purple in this arrangement is no longer licensed as being food safe in this country. It’s such a shame as it’s a colour that just can’t be replicated and it’s still licensed elsewhere in the world. AND I’d literally just bought a massive bottle of it when I found out! 😂😡

Summer series!

13. I’m pretty sure if the recipient of this cake sees it on her feed she will comment on this post because I know she loved it as much as I did. Another of those designs where it just all goes right. I’d been seen sent some inspo picture which, lovely as they were, weren’t really having the desired effect of inspiring me. As a result I’d left it until the last minute to decorate and it came to the point where I just had to get something, anything on the cakes!

I started with the white dahlias. Then, because I never miss an opportunity to add some peonies to a cake I whacked some of those on as well. When I looked back at the pictures, I saw those flat peach flowers - I think they are a sort of dahlia too - and the addition of those instantly lifted the design. The hint of blue came directly from the pictures and I filled the gaps with flowers piped with my favourite Russian nozzle.

I would change nothing about this cake, and it’s not very often I say that!

Summer series!

12. Another recent one but worth a reshare. I love this cake partly for how it looks but partly because it took me out of my comfort zone. I’d sort of agreed to make this cake - booked the week before a wedding that had to be brought forward - before seeing any pictures of what they wanted. It was being made for the bride as a surprise so that only added to the pressure. Oh, and did I mention it was made and delivered on the hottest week of the year in temperatures that were above 35!

Summer series!

11. Besties on a cake - what’s not to love. I really enjoy making heart shaped cakes. They are a faff to ice and get the icing smooth while retaining the crisp heart shape so I cheated with this one and left the sides naked. The colours and flowers on this were a recreation of a wedding bouquet and the flavour was a specially request carrot cake. It’s not a flavour I make very often and I’m always a little nervous about using it for a bigger tiered cake as it’s a moist, soft sponge but for a flatter cake like this it’s fine!

Summer series!

10. Now I realise this is a bit of a cheat as the cutting cake on this set up is a replica of the bigger cake in my very first post.

This one is a 6” version and I got to set this up at the Voco Oxford Thames hotel. Initially I wasn’t convinced about setting it up using the venue’s traditional cake stand but it was absolutely the right choice. This set up was the second time this style of cake went viral, this one even more popular than the first!

Summer series!

9. Couldn’t have a favourites series without a version of my most requested bouquet. I’ve piped this one countless times in different colour ways. Each one comes out slightly different but the limited colour palette and peonies always make it look classy - I think so anyway!

It’s also a favourite because it’s actually a pretty simple one to pipe - not many piping nozzles or bags needed so a quick wash up and limited colours reduces clearing up time too which is always a winner in my book!

Summer series!

8. Oh my gosh, this cake. It’s definitely one of those that I still can’t quite believe I made. I can’t remember who Jane was, I hope she was as pleased with it as I still am!

Daffodils are still one of my favourite flowers to pipe. I used to be very a**l about only piping them in the spring but I’ve chilled out somewhat now and will happily pipe them all year round because, why not! No air-miles to worry about here so if you want a daffodil, you shall have a daffodil. 🌼

Summer series!

7. Whilst lots of my choices for this series have back stories, I have literally not a clue who I made this one for! So I’ve chosen it purely for the aesthetics. I absolutely love the dark claret red contrasting with the orange and I’m pretty happy with the flower choices and placements.

Top job me.
