Well… we only went and won it!
On Monday night in London, Porth Tocyn was named AA Hotel of the Year Wales 2026–27.
It’s difficult to put into words quite how much this means to us.
Porth Tocyn has been in our family since 1948. A lot has changed here over those years, but what we’re about really hasn’t. We’re still a small, independent family hotel and we care hugely about good food, proper hospitality and creating somewhere people genuinely enjoy coming back to.
This award belongs to far more people than the four of us who happened to be in London to collect it.
To our team, past and present – thank you. So many wonderful people have put so much into Porth Tocyn over the years. And to the team we have around us today, who work incredibly hard and care so much about this place, we couldn’t be prouder of you.
We also want to give a very special thank you to Anne Gaskin, Rebecca Birch and Darren Shenton-Morris, who have supported us enormously over the years and continue to do so. Your contribution to Porth Tocyn, and to us personally, means so much and we probably don’t say it often enough.
To our family, and the generations before us who have loved, shaped and occasionally battled with this place since 1948 – this one belongs to you too.
And most importantly, to our guests – thank you. Some of you have been coming to Porth Tocyn for generations, others have only just found us, but your loyalty and affection for this little place means the world to us. Quite simply, without you there wouldn’t be a Porth Tocyn.
For our little family hotel tucked away in Bwlchtocyn, beyond Abersoch on the Llŷn Peninsula, to be named AA Hotel of the Year Wales is something we are enormously proud of.
Thank you to the AA for this very special recognition – and thank you to everyone who has played a part in making Porth Tocyn what it is.
